Paramilitary clip mod thought....

#1

Post by kiwispyder »

Hi,just wondering if anyone had tried to mount a pocket clip
using the lanyard hole?
I thought if i could get a clip without any mounting holes predrilled in it i could
get it to fit.
maybe a pivot barrel and screw would have a nice low profile on both sides?
I also wonder if i could tighten it enough to stop the cilp turning or moving,
or maybe a tiny drop of resin behind it?
any thoughts or advise would be excellent thanks.
oh and a good place to get blank pocket clips if theres such a thing,or a homemade clip idea?
here's a few pics to get the juices going.
Thanks heaps,from near the south pole.(kinda) :p :D

Best thing to do imo would be to recess it down a bit to stop turning but maybe getting it tight enough will do it. Try Knifekits.com they have clips and fasteners.

Not to discourage you, but the Para2 is coming out and will have 4 position clip placement.

Good luck with the experiment.
...oh you know why!

Hey thanks for the fast replies.
I really want to try and do it myself.
I dont really like all the holes from the unused cilp positions.
I've been looking at some pivot screws,it looks like i could take out the lanyard tube and replace it with the pivot barrel then screw in the really nice looking torx screws each end,one being on top of the cilp.
With luck it could turn out simple, strong, and look amazing..(to me anyway)
...or not.
A concern would be the cilp moving, maybe as GoMeR said a little recess.
I'll give it a go. :D

Welcome aboard mate, good to see another Kiwi here.
The Spyderco factory outlet store is a good place to start for any other clips you might need, and they're real easy to deal with over the phone.
For more generic clips you might want to try Halpern titanium, they can also sort you out with any "specialty" screws your after.

Cheers

Jez.

welcome kiwispyder. :) i am glad your here with us. although i very much dislike the kiwi model. there are about a half a dozen spydies i don't like and the kiwi is **** near the top of the list. sorry that's the way i feel... (oh and the fixed blades. uh-uh)
my favorite is the civilian. you have/like this model? do you find the kiwi very practical? i imagine the blade just "doesn't get it done" although i never owned one, just handle them

I have thought about it...but G-10 holds a screw really well and I just drilled and tapped directly into the G-10. My para is 2 y.o with no issue so far.

The lanyard tube is fairly thin on the outside edges. You might want to mic it before threading.
In addition to prevent rotation of the clip you will need to inlet part of the clip or put a set screw into the G-10
