This was my first SFO 2nd's sale and I knew there would be a crowd but WOW was there! I would venture to say somewhere in the 300+ mark just before noon. I was among one of the later crowd, I arrived at 8:30 and there was a large line. it took me until 10:30 before I actually got in to look at the knifes but it was pretty well organized. There were some great prices and it was pretty picked over by the time I got there seeing what the early birds got but I was still happy with my haul.

I met some pretty terrific people while waiting in the lines and it's nice to be among people that appreciate a well made knife and don't gasp when you show them what you are carrying. I will be going next year, maybe a bit earlier and with more cash ;)

2nd's:
Atlantic Salt $25
kukuhri - $50
CAT - $10
Chicago - $10
Chinook $50
Kopa stacked wood - $25
Baby Goddard - $15
SPOT $10
Black Blade Native - $15
Yin Kitchen knife - $10
Yang Kitchen knife - $10
Dyad - $15

Production on sale:

Atlantic
Delica Wave combo
Aqua Salt

Extras:
Black Baliyo
Canvas bag

Interesting to see those photos. Were the boxes of knives organized in any way or were they random?

Thanks for the pictures Ian! Good to see folks are getting some good hauls. It's very cool Spyderco does this yearly and that even their factory seconds are not crap. Spyderco is just such a darn good company. Good folks, good morals, Whale rescue blade, calm people running the joint. I could go on.

Right now we are all living vicariously through those of you who attended. ;)

I believe they built the building on property they owned. A lot of times if you're the first or only building on the road you get to name it and you sometimes incur the entire cost of getting the street etc put in. I am betting that they developed the street and then it gets given to the city and the city keeps the name of the street.

Look at the map...

Yes, "Spyderco Way" is the official name of the street.

I got there late today (about 1:30), so the selection was not so good, but no waiting in line, either.

so when are people gonna start posting pic of there goodies?
i want to see how bad they "seconds" look. i think a little imperfection for 80% off is still mighty fine! but would also want a flawless one to keep for posterity. but a ukpk for 20 to beat the **** out of does sound tempting. maybe next year. but i want to see the pis to see if it is worth it. the pics of the crowd say it is

Man...it was not a good day for my friend. He left home late, and only had like $20 cash on him. He also had a ham on the smoker at home so was working under a strict time limit. He waited 2hrs to get in, then once he had a couple knives for me, discovered the checkout line for credit was almost an hour long, so he put everything back but one knife, a CAT for me, and paid cash & was able to get out in time to salvage his smoked ham.

I'm glad to get the CAT, as it was tops on my list of wants, and he says now that he knows how the sale works, he will get there early next year, and bring mucho cash so he won't have to wait in line.

I'd post a pic, but I won't have the knife until he gets a chance to ship it to me next week.

the 2nds for the most part were arranged by model type but the variants of a model were put together so you still had to rummage through a tray to see what was there. They also had a large baskets of $5 users were the blades scratched with a persons name or broken tips, a friend of mine picked up an old Catcherman that 1/4 of the tip was gone but it had been reground and looked great. Lots of delicas, enduras, saw a couple of Police in that pile too. They also had tables of their regular production knives on sale which is where I got my delica wave and aqua salt

that's why I took these photos, I knew so many people couldn't make it that live in other states and countries that are Spydie-knuts like I am. I am fortunate enough to basically have Spyderco in my back yard since I live in the Denver area I wanted to share my experience with everyone especially since this was also my first time to their 2nds sale. I had talked to people that were there sleeping in sleeping bags the night before waiting in line, that's hard core!!

I don't have any detailed shots yet but I have to say that on nearly 95% of what I got I can't find the flaw in the craftmenship, Hats off to Spyderco for keeping a tight ship on quality control. The ones I did find flaws on it was so minor, scales not lining up perfectly, slightly off center blades, nearly nothing I would complain about. Well worth the price and the waiting in line for

I can't wait for my loot to arrive and thank you to a member for making this dream come true again. As far as what you might see on a second. This is where Spyderco really shines! These knives are in perfect working order, and if it was any other name you would just own another pocket knife! The things that they say are "not perfect" most would never see. Thank you once again Spyderco

I can't believe all those knives, rock-bottom prices, and the people! I would've surely OD'd if I made it there.

Thanks for the pics cougar337!

Glad those who went had an enjoyable time. I've read all the posts so far but nobody has mentioned if they got to meet any of the Spyderco personnel. Was Sal there? Or anyone else we might know by name, like TazKristi, Eric, Charlynn, Joyce, etc?

By the way, is there a hotel nearby? I want to go next year and would like to get there a day early so I can get in line at 2:am. Thanks.

By coincidence, I bought an Aqua Salt on ebay the morning of the sale. Got a great deal as possibly 75% of the ebay Spyderco buyers were at the SFO sale.

So I'm curious what the Aqua Salts at SFO were selling for...

edit: I'm also thinking of going next year but, Jay_Ev, what are you thinking, man? Bring a sleeping bag and pad and go straight to SFO. The money you would waste on a hotel could be used to buy several knives.

Well, of the three I bought, it looks like two were returns. They were made in Seki City, so that makes sense. I could find no obvious flaws, but they were both dull. The third was a Centofante 4 that had had the bug fall off, leaving a pit in the handle. It was factory sharp, so it may have come back from a dealer. The epoxy I used to fill the pit is hardening as I write. For pics of the other two, just look in the catalog ...

Sequimite,

I bought one of the Aquas for $60, new. At first I thought it was a good deal, but it may be possible to find a better deal on line. The Aqua Salt is my favorite hiking knife, but I needed a PE (previous kinfe is a SE). The nice thing about getting a new knife at SFO is that all the profit goes to the great folks at Spyderco.
