FRN Dragonfly research - need input
Sal, Keep it simple, no wire clip, like the way it is with the VG-10 flat blade & FRN handles, some jimping will do. Pin construction. Carry a white FRN one everyday.Have two more on order. Also it'll keep the cost down for us working class people. Things are starting to get rough out there for some of us. Thanks, Gary
Great question. I think that D-fly is great inexpensive lil knife. I´d keep it as simple as possible - FRN scales without SS liners, maybe add Boye dent, jimping, removable four way clip (doesn´t matter if it´s wire clip or not), screwed construction, washers. That knife is perfect because of it´s cost and simplicity (hope it´s right word). Also keep the cost as low as it´s now.

I'm very excited about this, as I am left handed and like the idea of a small affordable knife that can be clipped left handed. To me, nested liners are a plus, if only for extra peace of mind. I really like the shape of the dragonfly. and will definitely pick one of these up as long as it can be left and right handed, and stays affordable. Jimping is a big plus too.
Sal- Thanks for asking for our input. My request isn't exactly on topic but is it possible to do the Dragonfly tip-down (or some other configuration) so it can have both a lanyard hole AND a true low carry clip? There's an image of such a (modified) design earlier in this thread.
I have three Dragonflies and think they're excellent knives BUT never carry any of them because of the amount of handle that protrudes above the top of the pocket. That exposure seems to suggest that I'm carrying a much larger knife than I am. The G10 version reduces that exposure a bit but not to the extent that the clip on the Urban, for instance, does.

I think you'd have to have someone like Brad make the changes for you. Our new model is tip up wire clip only. Both left and right are possible, but there is still some sticking out of the pocket.
The final pieces will be one piece FRN, bi-directional texture, left / right tip up wire clip. Full flat grind on VG-10. We'll probably make some colors as out customers request.

Sal-thanks for taking the time/effort to respond directly. It is appreciated! While I have your attention (if i still do) I will explain that I'm towards the older end of Spyderco's "demographic" but have had an almost life-long fascination for pocket knives. As a pre-teen and teen in the 1950's I spent hours and hours staring at the Robesons in the floor display at the front of my father's small town hardware store (when I should have been sweeping the floor, dusting or stocking shelves!). I lost interest through my college years and a bit beyond but picked it up again in 1969 when I bought a small Boker stockman in preparation for a camping trip and have carried a pocket knife virtually daily ever since.
When I saw my first Spydercos I thought they were very strange but bought one in January 1989 (a Worker, three clip screws but non-beveled handle edges) and have been accumulating and using them ever since. For some of the intervening years I alternated carrying Spydercos with more traditional models and still have an interest in a variety of makes and styles. As one ages, however, there's a desire to simplify things and, for the past few years, the ONLY knives I've carried have been Spydercos-nothing else makes sense any more!
