Question for the Boss
To Mr. Glesser [or any Spyderco employee]: What knives go into the Spyderco museum?
I mean, do you include prototypes that don't make it past R&D, or are the only knives that are saved in the museum the knives that are sold to John / Jane Q. Public?
Thanks! :)

Interesting. I'd like to know, too.

I was just thinking that same thing. Talk about a headache for Sal n Co...
Probably the closest one could ever get to such things is becoming a member of the collectors club. At least then you'd be getting a :spyder: whether you heard of it and/or need it or not (and of course we always do)

Thinking about it, the cost to keep an armed guard on the payroll F/T, for the sole purpose of standing watch over 2 person, 30 minute, private tour(s) of the museum.... might could be quite profitable for everyone involved! The tours would have to be scheduled, by appointment only (of course! :p ). Something along the same line as the Coor's brewery tour.
Little, collectible, Spydie items could be handed out (like a hat pin?) after the tour to show that you're 1 of the lucky ones.... :D
What would it be worth to ya? How much would you pay for a private tour like that?

Assuming the knives are displayed, the best "solution" might be a video tour DVD or better yet a CD with a combination of video walk throughs and still photos. If the majority of the prototypes are not normally displayed, having someone photograph them and put together a CD would be great. It would give a lot more people access to them.

I could see some sort of event like "Sarguy and the Spyderco Factory", where five golden spydercos are sent out, and the lucky addicts get a tour of the factory and museum. :D

And then it turns out that Sal and Eric have bought a deserted island, and are looking for some trustworthy afi to take over the management responsibilities and keep the lines rolling while they test exotic designs/steels in the jungle.sarguy wrote:I could see some sort of event like "Sarguy and the Spyderco Factory", where five golden spydercos are sent out, and the lucky addicts get a tour of the factory and museum. :D
Talk about a dream come true.
([edit] taking care of the Janichloompas that design new MBC knives would be a bit tricky, though.)
(I actually had a thought yesterday, when they announced a $50M lotto win, about how much you'd have to pay Sal to buy Spyderco outright. Even keeping him as CEO and lead designer, I bet you'd have to pay him a moneybin's worth.)

The very first prototype folder with an opening hole that Sal built, will probably find its way in there. He mentioned as much to me when I handed it back to him. :p
I expect all prototypes and concept models to be in there. As well as some of the knives that makers make as a submission to Spyderco. There is a great display with all types of Natives, that'll probably go in the museum as well.
