Strrrrretch FRN

Post by gldfshkpr »

Hi Everybody,

I have a Stainless Stretch. Love it. What's different about the FRN model? Thinking about ordering one. How about the other model with the fancy handle? Does anyone have any pics of all three together? Deacon? Anybody? Money doesn't grow on trees around here so I'm looking at all angles if possible. I realize I could consult the catalog, but isn't it more fun to talk about our knives? BTW, my Stretch sees daily use as my EDC at the moment. The Para is taking a back seat now. The Stretch is my first Spyderco and my favorite. Just wondering if the FRN or (can't think of the name at the moment) fancy handled one will fit nicely into rotation as well.

Compared to the SS/Kraton Stretch, the handle of the FRN version of the Stretch II is a hair longer and the jimping on the thumbramp is fine, like that on the choil. It is also a good bit lighter and noticeably thicker.

The CF version of the Stretch II is in the middle. Length is the same as the FRN one, thickness closer to that of the SS/Kraton, and its weight falls about midway between the two. The first batches of CF Stretch II's had jimping like that of the SS version, newer ones have the same style as the FRN.

I have all three versions, plus one that STR customized for me a few years back with Lignum Vitae scales over titanium liners. Much as I like the CF one, I find myself carrying the FRN one more, as the thicker handle makes it more comfortable to use.

Thank you very much. Niice family you have there. Think I'll order the FRN version in blue.

Nice choice.

I've been facing a similar dilemma... I held out buying a Stretch ,waiting for the FRN ZDP version to be released. Now that's been released I want the CF version :p ...and I still dont own either.

Although I don't think it's my coolest knife by a longshot, if I were to choose ONE spydie of mine to go camping/adventuring with, it would be my ZDP Stretch FRN hands down. It's super grippy, secure, and sharp. The blade to handle ratio is almost 1:1 it seems.

My grind seems a bit odd, but I'm going to get diamond stones to reprofile it to an even 30 anyway...
