First Question

#1

Post by Roland »

Yea, the **** Addiction, but fortunately I'm in the High-Risk-Beginners-Phase and can handle the Symptom (actually). If I see some Signatures of some Members, I think they where unfortunately in the advanced Stadium, maybe End-Stadium ?

Hey Dude's, isn't too late, you can gett off if you really want ;-)

Thanks for Welcomes and understanding the Addiction. After my first Post I have the first Question(s):

After for Hours in the Forum, I found a Thread about the Dragonfly (and a lot impressed Pictures too) with pimped / colored G-10 Scales from Foliage-Green to Black with RIT dey or so. Very nice Work, looks great and matches better to the Df instead Foliage-Green (IMO).

How is the Handling? Did the Color stay on the Scales permantly?

Maybe i will try it on the Persistence if I find a practical Solution in my Hometown.

Also I can't find a Price of it. On Spydercos Online-Catalog it's not listed, eBay-US not listed and acma (Germans Distributor of many Knive Brands) ditto. What's the average Price in the US for the G-10? So I have a similar Indication for the german Price.

My last Question, is the Meercat a Special Modell ? Out of Range now ? My Offline Seller have one. Isn't my Favorite, but the Price is low (think so). Otherwise, what ever, haven't Money now for a new Knife.

Regards
Roland

I controll my Addiction, really..

Hi Roland,

I'd say it's too early to tell how the RIT dye will hold up on G-10. The only person I'm aware has done it, only did so a few days ago.

Local equivalent for you would be a dye, meant for cloth, which is dissolved in or mixed with boiling water to use.

Not really needed on the Persistence, since the G-10 on it is already black.

G-10 Dragonfly is selling for around $90 to $95 here. MSRP is $130.

Meerkat has been out of production for a few years, but they do show up on eBay fairly regularly. It's a nicely made little knife and is surprisingly heavy for its size.

Hi Roland,

if you are referring to the Persistence (which is actually black already, so no dyeing is necessary) regarding the price, take a look here:

http://www.boker.de/index.php?c=3000&a= ... 99&p=&pp=0

If it's about the G10 D'fly, I can only guess, but I think it will be about 20-40 EUR less than the Caly 3 G10, which would lead to a german price of 110-140 EUR.
New graham has them in stock for around $93.

Maybe I can be of some help when it comes to purchasing Spydies in Germany. If you have questions, shoot me a PM anytime. You can even write in german then ;)

Just regarding your signature line.... I wouldnt call those "faults". More like, right of passage. Secondly, we are your support group, and wont make you feel guilty for such things. Thirdly, My Name is Donovan, and I am an Addict. :D Feed the NEED!!!!

I am totally perving on a black FRN plain-jane D'Fly at my local shop. I simply love the **** thing. I want it bad. You should get one too. Shes already calling your name. Heed the Call.

@ Deacon

I think also, to get a serious Result it will takes a few Weeks / Months in daily Environment.

I know, the Handles at the Persistence are black, but in Comparison with the Caly3 its a little bit shiny (?). However I didn't want do it Tomorrow.

90-95$ and 130$ MSRP ? Thats about 130-140€ in Germany. Ok, my Offline-Seller is flexible so I can get it for 120€ maybe if I want it. I payed for the Caly 155€ (174,95&#8364 ;) . But I knowed since the First Contact with them, I must have it. It worths ever cent IMO.

@ Murdoc

The Persistance I allready have. I bought it 2 Days ago for 49€. It's a friendly Price for a Quality Folder like that. Ok, you can't build your own Logboat with that, but for daily easy Tasks its more than enough.

Thanks for your Offer, I will contact you if I want to buy a new one, naturally in english ;-) (When it's to hard, so I will switch to german)

Roland, deutsch wäre in PM's (Private Mail) einfacher für uns BEIDE :D
(translated: Roland, german would make it easier for BOTH of us in a PM)

Regarding the D'fly, it will take a while for german dealers to have them in stock, but you will in deed have to face an official german price between 110-140 EUR for it, which is a bit steep IMO. We will have to wait for a decent deal, but that's half the fun ;)
Check my edited post above for a link to it.

The Dragonfly is really a nice knife, I love my etched variant:

I didn't realize that you came from Koblenz / Germany. Ok, no Prob for german in PM (I will not translate this in german ;-) )

The Price Differences are sometimes very steep, you 're right. But I think you must handle a Spyderco before you buy it IMO. That's the only Way to become the *Must Have* Feeling (Caly3). Pics, they tells nothing about Optic and Haptic (in exception of Forum-Pic-Threads).

I will try a translation:
Ich habe nicht bemerkt, dass du aus Koblenz / Deutschland kommst. Gut, eine persönliche Nachricht in Deutsch ist kein Problem (Ich möchte das nicht ins Deutsche übersetzen)

Beware of native speakers :p

Roland, if you have specific questions, don't hesitate to contact me too (in German :D )
