My first Spyderco has arrived!
My first Spyderco has arrived!
I just got my first spyderco knife and I'm blown away!
I had finally decided to order a spyderco, and after some research decided on the plain edged native lightweight. I was looking around online after I had ordered it, and I noticed that eknifeworks.com had the calypso jr. serrated lightweights on sale for a measely 25 dollars. "Well" I says to myself, "You should get this puppy. Everyone is always raving about the calypso's and since they are discontinued it's now or never. Plus the fully serrated will go nicely with your plain edge Native, you will be ready for anything!" So I went ahead and ordered that too.
The Calypso Jr. arrived first and WOW!
I didn't expect the Calypso Jr. to be so big, but I really like it. The scales are really nice, and the lock it incredibly solid. This is a big step up from my CRKT M16(my first and only other knife) in terms of quality if you ask me. It feels really secure where as the M16 was kind of wobbly.
I love the finger choil formed by the blade and the end of the handle. It really lets you choke up on the blade. The blade doesn't budge even a fraction of an inch when I try to move it left-right and up-down. I can feel no wiggle at all.
The only thing I don't like about the knife is the black clip. The golden spyderbug on it is extra cool, but the clip actually managed to get scratched up in transit, and it looks pretty crappy now. Is it possible to order a shiny stainless steel clip that fits the calypso hole configuration?
I'm so pleased with this knife, it has exceeded all my expectations. My Native is due to arrive on monday and I'm really excited. I've never really hoped for a weekend to be over before, but the Calypso Jr. has whetted my appetite. I find myself smiling in anticipation and waiting for monday to roll around!

Congrats on the Calypso. You can polish the clip you have. I start with 800 grit wet or dry sandpaper and after 95% of the paint is gon finish it up with the Dremel and some polishing compound.

Hey Gurgi :
I have a Calypso jr. SE in micarta w/ J&L logo I bought from them about 1 1/2yrs ago
and I love it ; Native's right up there too,
don't underestimate CRK&T's M-16 ; it's one fine blade ( even if "wobbly"<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>) I plan on getting their Marzitelli "Prowler" in the future, I HAD the Ryan Model 7, but that went
with some of my Spydies in a recent calamity
of financial proportion(s)<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> But I'm on the "rebound" and should recover from this disaster <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I'm awaitng shipment, as I post, from glasshartt of a reverse "S" Meerkat & SE
Dragonfly ( hope I can hold on to this ****
one!<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>) Anyway, congradulations on two fine choices by you! <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
So many Spydies, <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> So little money! <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
ATE <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Gurgi, as JSmith warned you. It starts with one. You already have another on the way and your planning on more. Maybe that is the trap I fell into. Beware, Save Yourself NOW! You could be the next one innocently getting ready for the day and then BAMMM. You find yourself stuck staring at your Spydercos wondering wich one to carry today. Don't let this happen to you.

Sure Gurgi! You have it all justified. Just like the rest of us <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
Next you will need a Harpy for seatbelt or rope cutting, the a Civilian for self defense, a Forum Vesuvius because you're a member of the Forum, an engraved Delica because the other members got one and they look so great, a gun metal blue Lum because it's so .....blue, an Endura because it's such a Spyderco classic, a second Endura because it's such a classic and the first was serrated-edge and you just have to have a plain-edged also, and so on, and so on.....
Alright, who wants to bet that he can't stop at only three <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Gurgi :
If your Spydie habit gets bad, try glasshartt
( GlassHartt@AOL.com ) she'll fix you up <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> with some Spydies that won't be such a drain on your wallet <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Sure, we all know the symptoms of <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Addiction:
1.) Need to buy excessive amounts of cutlery, often driving self in debt.
2.) Need to buy different knives, simply because one has a different steel. Especially prevalent with purchases of an SS to go with an FRN, and vice versa.
3.) Sudden lack of most or all arm and wrist hair. Small cuts are also common.
4.) Frequenting of internet sites where other addicts are known to cluster, seeking ways to justify the habit! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
I am Sword and Shield, and I am a <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Holic.
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Thank you S&S. The first step in the road to recovery is the recognition that you are a <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>holic.
Hi! My name is Java and I too am a <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>holic. Terzuola Starmate #883 from e-bay for $75.00 tonight; Glasshartt wanting to know what edge I want on the Gunting; and ATE’s generous gift of a Mini Dyad – the temptations are far too numerous to fight. It starts small with a Calypso Jr. a Cricket, or a Ladybug. Next thing you’re strung out on Enduras, Salsas or Meerkats. Pretty soon you’re mainlining some jazzed up designer custom collaboration Zowada or the next Lum. Your finances and family life suffer – or worse the wife and kids join in your addiction – kids don’t eat, wife’s looking for her next ncklace knife, and everybody’s packing. “It couldn't happen to me! I have it all justified see?” Through a dim FRN, G10, and steel haze I seem to remember these words also. My very soul has been justified so I could score my next Spydie hit. Herein on the Forum, I have found solace and understanding. Harken well these words, young Gurgi, for it is a dangerous path you have begun to tread. I am Java and I too am a <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>holic.
Stay safe! Stay sharp! <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I am VampyreWolf, and I'm an alcoholic...
<b>Oops, wrong room...</b>
We all started with one, they're just like Lays...
Delica, ladybug, Cricket, Dragonfly, Wegner Jr(now J Smith's), Q Spider(from J Smith), Calypso jr...
and more to come this fall, including the 4" cricket my friend is making for me... and my SS Cricket scales I'm making.
<img src=http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/372fcedb ... 8A88UxWudf> We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare... <img src=http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/372fcedb ... 8A88UxWudf>
