C83BM Persian Worth?

#1

Post by StangBang »

Well I went to a local gun show this weekend in search for some Spyders. I only found 3 in the whole place!! :o It was a smaller show though.
To the point
I found a guy who was selling a Chinook 2 and a Persian. After bargaining with him for quite some time I was able to get him down to $60.00 for the Persian!
He came down to $100 for the Chinook 2, but I decided to just buy the Persian as it interested me more.
Forgive me ahead of time, but when I was bargaining I did not realize that what I was looking at was the large persian. I knew there were 2 different sizes, just not sure which one this was, as I never paid really close attention.
Turns out it is the larger, C83BM Persian!!!!!

I am contemplating whether I should keep it or not, and was just wondering around what are these going for these days?

ANY help is much appreciated!!!!

edited to add pics (sorry they are links)

from the pics you just posted it looks slightly used i dunno if this is true or not but the bolster looks a little scratched and right above the spyderhole seems to be scratched up too. It could just be the camera angle though

I happened to notice one sell on the popular auction site for $250, in new with box condition, just this summer.

The designer, ES, had at least one for sale at OKCA last spring at a reasonable price, something less than that shown above.

Otherwise, they are rare and wonderful to see knives.

Thank you BH49 for your inspiration to own this knife. I owe you 1/2 a beer. :D

Yes there are a few scratches but they aren't bad at all. It was sold to me Like new, with no box. I have heard taking steel wool to the bolster will remove small surface scratches, and these aren't deep at all. But yes you are correct it isn't Brand new :o I will get some better pics hopefully tomorrow!

well in it's present condition it would make for a great user especially at the price you paid. Personally if i came across a find like that i'd slip it in my pocket and carry it often. But you could go the steel wool route too just depends what you want it for

NIB ones go for around $250, I would guess around $200 for that one, but that is just a guess, it looks like to be in decent shape.

WTF !!! you managed to get a Large Persian for $60 !!! My friend you just bought my favourite knife and EDC for about 1/4 of its worth :D Well done. I had my first one a long time ago and sold it because it felt too heavy. Now I think I have about 10 or 12 or them ??? :p

It looks to be in pretty good nick too :) I wouldn't bother doing anything to it unless you intend on not using it... then you should sell it. I just sharpen and clean mine every time I use it. SOme here have given it to Mr Krein to do a FFG regrind on it. I just freehand sharpen mine on fine diamond stones.

Please add your Persian to the "Persian Army" thread :D we love Persians .... well I do, and a few others as well. However, may I make the same suggestion to you as I did with Roman (bh49) - don't underestimate the mini Persian ! In many ways it is as good as the large Persian. Go get one and you will not regret it, trust me I have a few of those in my arsenal as well ;)

I would've snatched the Chinook 2 up in a heartbeat. And for only $100?! I want a Chinook really freaking bad, but the 3rd generation Chinook just doesn't perform as well as the two previous ones. That's what I've been told by numerous people anyway..

Unless it's a factory second, which is less likely in KS that it might be in CO, it's definitely worth more than you paid. In fact, given the current cult status of the C83, even if by some strange chance it is a second you got a fair deal.

I bought two NIB large Persians recently and paid 175$ and 180$ respectively.
That is an amazing deal. The Chinook 2 is not very popular, I think 100$ is a fair price, a NIB Chinook 3 can be found between 90$ and 110$ on eBay.

Lorenzol,
I doubt if you can find a Large Persian for $90-110 on eBay. If you can then you are looking somewhere different to me :D and if you do can you please let me know :p they sound more like mini Persian prices to me.

The two Large Persians you got for $175-180 are pretty good deals. Enjoy them :D They make excellent cutters

Thank you everyone for your help and input! I carried it around the rest of the day Saturday and all day Sunday, and I can say I this knife is staying in my collection with me. :D I always liked the looks of the Persians and had considered buying a mini persian for some time. That's why when I saw this one at the show I wanted it, and I'm glad I went for it! They are very nice knives and feel great in the hand! I might just have to pick up its baby brother sometime soon after all  :) Is steel wool the best thing for removing the scratches? What other methods should I use? (if any)

Again, thank you all for your input! I will get some better pictures when it stops raining!

Spyderco uses ScotchBrite pads to put the finish on their stainless steel handles and bolsters. Get one of those green pads and you should be able to make it look much better. Make sure that you keep your strokes in the same direction (not back and forth).

$60 for this knife is a steal.
Lately I saw NIB C83 on e-bay sold between $200 and $250. Unfortunately, lightly used without box will be little or not interest for collectors. Still I think you will be able to sell it for around $120.
The best part of your deal is that knife is already used. So, use it. You like it, keep it, use it more. If you do not like it, after few days of carry and use it will not loose any value. Sell it or trade it, let somebody else to enjoy.

If the scratches bothered you that much tape up the micarta parts of the handle and use some 800 grit sandpaper in straight strokes on a flat surface. If it were me, just carry it.It will get some scratches on the bolsters anyway. My Kris has some scratches that match you Persian if you want to get rid of that ugly dog! :D :DI tend to like ugly dogs here lately. You should have seen my Police that I bought used before i fixed it, and scratched it up again. It had a dude's initials engraved in it with a electro pencil.I had it looking like new in about 30 minutes of work.

you did very well at $60 bucks, even if it has a few scratches.I have seen them go for much much more.
