I bought one and it will be used and EDC'd. I bought it because the knife itself appealed to me and also had the added bonus of the engraving which gives it immediate sentimental value as well. I can tell you right now, if the forum knife had been one I don't have any interest in using (Manix, Barong, Chokwe, Goddard, J.D. Smith, etc, etc) I simply would not have bought it. All my knives are users and if they end up sitting in a box too long, I sell 'em. So I for one, have no problem at all if they do a second run. In fact, my wife likes mine so much I would probably end up buying one from the second run for her. :p

As for all those putting blame on others (Spyderco, hoarders, aliens, democrats, republicans, eBay dealers, etc.), I put my thoughts out there in the now locked thread but, I fall squarely in the "you snooze, you lose" camp. :p
I prefer to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.

I'm proud to be a member of this forum, and to be associated with such a fine group of people. I'd like to see every member who wants a forum knife get one. I think limiting future runs to 1 per customer (at least for the first week) is a good idea. I don't believe doing so would involve much extra time and effort on :spyder: 's part. I know some will find ways to get around the limit, but it will help make things fairer for everyone.
Just from a pure technical standpoint, you have to see if the cart software Spyderco is using can even handle "limiting" of product. I am sure Spyderco's IT group would argue it would not be a "trivial" change. :D

Even adding the special discount code is going above and beyond in my book, they could have said MSRP, I would still be in for one.

As with anything "limited" there will always be someone who didn't get one.

Either way, I am just happy to see they sold and that Spyderco isn't left holding a bunch of extra knives.

The people that got one for sure don't want a second run they are the ones the bought it for the $value doing a second run would devalue the first run. Buying a knife for the $value is fine but the knife would make a sweet edc. For the people who really want one quit crying just go pay the going rate and buy one on ebay.
Don't think you can make blanket statements like that. My only concern with the idea of Spyderco making a second run is the very real possibility of them getting stuck with a bunch of them. I purchased three. One for my personal collection, one to carry, and one for a fellow forumite who knew he was not going to be able to order one for himself on Tuesday and didn't want to risk missing out. Aside from my concern that Spyderco would be left holding the bag, it would not upset me one bit if they decided to make more. In fact I'd probably buy another couple, as they're the first Native that I really like the looks of the blade and that way I'd feel more comfortable about having Tom Krein grind the markings off one. :o :D

For the most part, this is a group of people enjoying a discussion, don't make more out of it than it is, it's a forum!

I for one am enjoying some of the common sense and intelligence shown by our small community. Thanks guy's. :)

I simply do not understand where all the self entitlement comes from. I've been lurking here watching this project for over a year and still managed to be ready to go when the time came. Kristi told us all EXACTLY where, when and how to get one if we wanted. She told us how many would be available and anyone that has been paying attention should have known they would be a hit given the USN Endura.

For all of you that wish to make excuses as to why you were unable to get to the phone/internet etc. and somehow vindicate yourself by pushing blame in Spyderco's direction. Grow up!

I can say in full confidence that I probably have one of the most demanding, time consuming, dangerous, and flat out challenging jobs of anyone on this forum. Add to that that my wife and I just brought home our first children, twins, that were born 2 months premature and require "special" attention in the form of O2 and monitoring equip a week prior to the forum knife going live. I still managed to figure a way to set aside the minute and a half required to place an order. Heck, I ended up placing a second order towards the end of the run and bought the second to the last one.

Some of you want to condemn me and others that bought more than one because you feel you are more entitled to it than me, or my wife, or whoever I choose to give the extra too? Maybe you should have to submit a resume of qualifications before being given the opportunity to own this knife?

I'm not saying that to imply that I'm better than anyone or than anyone is better than me, simply stating that you all had your chance. If you didn't take it, or otherwise missed out, I'm sorry. I hope you find one someday or move on with your life. Whatever you do, stop complaining.

As I've also already stated in another thread, you find me a company that cares enough to do a project like this. I, along with many others, having been begging a certain other company to do this again for years and so far we have been met with the big goose egg.

With that, I've said my part. If you want to discount my words because I'm not old hat around here, go right ahead. At the end of the day, you know I'm right, if you missed out, it's your bad.

THANK YOU SAL KRISTI AND THE REST AT SPYDERCO FOR MAKING THIS KNIFE POSSIBLE! ;)
Wow man, it sounds to me like you should be tending to other stuff right now than ranting on forums. Listen, you can choose to have that tough guy too-bad attitude about the whole thing, but the bottom line is, these forum knives are meant for just that- forum members. It isn't that anyone thinks they are better than your wife, that's just absurd and hot-headed to even bring that up. It's just that these knives were made for the forum- heck it even says so right on the blade!

Ive been waiting since 2007 for another forum knife to pop up. Spyderco could have put a spidie hole in a turd and put forum knife on it and i would have still got them, thats how bad I wanted one. Bad enough that i took a few hours off work and sold some parts off my unfinished AR to get mine. So im sorry, but im in the to bad camp too, if you really wanted one that bad you should have been better prepared.

With that said, ill give someone the opportunity to get one of the two '09 forum knives i got. Basically ill trade someone straight up for any other year Spyderco forum knife. I have no intentions of putting any forum knives up for sale, it will be added to my collection and both will be moved to special occasion carry. I know we are not allowed to sell knives here and if Sal or Kristi have a problem with this then i will gladly delete my offer to do so, no problem.

Ill clear my PM box for the rush.

As far a a second run, i would say they shouldn't do it. The risk and headache could jeopardize future forum knives. If they do a second run though im in for :spyder: :spyder:.

Thank You to Spyderco for a great forum knife(my 1st)!!!!!!!!!!! <--I cant say that enough. I'm embarrassed for those that are being so ungrateful and want to apologize for them but i wont. :o

Lockback wrote:I started another thread about the possibility of a second run of the 2009 Forum Natives, but was perhaps too obtuse in my question.

Several forum members, for various reasons, did not have the opportunity to order the 2009 Forum Native, which was much more popular than anyone imagined. There seems to be a significant amount of unmet demand. Personally, I had hoped to purchase two - one as a user, and one to put back for my newborn child (I got my other child a significant Spyderco that was released in the year they were born, as well).

Thus, my question is this: who would be interested in a second run of 2009 Forum Natives, if Spyderco produced them? Would you be willing to pre-order and/or pre-pay to make it easier for such a run to be produced?

Lockback
After all the waiting and hoop-la, I don't log on for a few weeks and I totally miss out ?? I'm bummed. Stated very early on in the initial posts that I was in for 2 and now it's sold out?? I'm still in for 2 if and when they become available.

I'll be glad to pay in advance if that helps. Would have done the same months ago when I first said I wanted 2. Geeze ... I'm bummed. It's bad enough missing out on a Forum knife, but I've had a purple Spydie on my "want" list for years..........

Well, yeah. There was no indication at all that posting in that first thread would reserve two knives for you. If something comes up that you are interested in, staying away for a few weeks is a pretty good way to miss it.

We are giving away one of these knives to the people who didn't get their hands on one or to those who didn't have the funds available. Thanks for the great knife!

WOAH

Let me give some of you guys a piece of advise.

Spyderco best darn prodo company in the world bar none. We ask and if it's even remotely feasible they deliver. My lifetime prodo company for many many reasons, and that will always be the case. :)

A knife is a knife is a knife ( Hopefully that makes sense guys ) :p :)

Knives are just knives, but because of this forum I have gotten to know some fantastic people all across the world. Even though I may never meet them I consider many here good friends. Enjoy the community and cherish the friendships and eventually every knife you have ever wanted will come to you in time. In this forum it's not just about knives it's about a whole lot more.
