I had a knife sent to me by mistake, called the dealer and he said he would not have caught it, so I returned it right away.. The knife was a CR Sebenza.

One year later...He gave me a brand new custom Emerson as a gift for being honest, and a good customer. A CUSTOM Emerson!

Dude, you sound like a total fool, just return it, it is not yours to keep since you know where it came from. It is not like you found it in the woods or something.

I am not impressed with you at all. If I was a moderator you would be banned at once.

Same thing happened to me. I emailed the seller and they were wondering where the knife went. Some other poor guy was missing the one I had. Buyer payed shipping back to them and said to email them if there was a knife I wanted and would like a discount. 1 year later the S90V millie came out and I emailed them. I got a 10-15$ discount, which was less than the misplaced knife, but I felt good knowing I did the right thing. One word...Karma.
...oh you know why!

I'm in the notify, and send it back camp. Yeah, Kharma. You can't get around it.

Pretty much - slim to none!

And if I was the guy who was waiting for that "free" knife, I sure wouldn't be happy reading about you bragging about it on this or any other forum!

+1, and nice to see the majority of the responses to this thread, which I'm sure the author regrets posting... hopefully.

I'm with the notify the seller camp as well.

A while back I sent my 440V Military back to Spyderco to have them look at it. A week or so later, I received a box with 3 Atlantic Salts and an older Blue handle Rescue. While it was fun to open the box and see 4 knives in place of my one, I contacted Spyderco right away. These were some well used knives (I would guess by a landscaping crew due to the mud encrusted in the handles) and someone would be missing them...the same way I was still missing my Military. They got it straightened out right away and I'm sure everyone was happy in the end.

I learned my lesson with stealing when I was about 12 (I know, it was a little late) and I've felt better about myself ever since. I know who I am regardless of what others may say. That confidence gets me through a lot.
42 Spyderco fixed blades and counting...

.....this isn't a post about a "free" knife it's a revelation of individual, personal integrity. I stand with bigkahunasix and most everyone else here. I'm heartened that all but a few have got this one right.

I was thinking, if this post was about a taxation error, in our favour, the reply's might have been more of a celebration than condemnation. :p

I'm sending it back ..So no need to keep posting in this thread! No response yet but even if they don't respond i will just send it with a note.

Move on already...I'm sure some of you are just pissed that it didn't arrive at your door...I'm willing to bet not everyone who said integrity this that and the other thing would send it back.

So you think i'm a pos because a knife arrives at my door and i wanted to keep it? Tooo bad get over it!

Just one final thought and I'll leave this alone....Nobody here thinks or made any reference to thinking you were a POS...that's all in your mind. I think you underestimate the integrity levels of our average forum member here...most if not all who said to send it back, would have done just that, of this I'm sure. Most here would not be pissed because it didn't arrive at their door but might be pissed if it did...because that would mean extra work for those people, due to the fact it would take more time and energy on their part to get it back to the right party. A knife arrived at your door and you wanted to keep it and too bad we should get over it. Now because others here are not of like mind as you, you are going to return it...call it peer pressure (maybe). Being aware of what is right and what is wrong and acting in accordance with those values are really the most important issue here. Returning the knife and giving yourself bad feelings and thinking less of those on this forum who suggested it is a no win for everyone.. you might want to think about how you can turn this into a Win Win situation for yourself and others who are involved...When that is realized you have learned and grown from this experience without having to take the payoff (your favorite familiar bad feeling) and you will gain the respect and admiration of other members of this forum...if that's what your even looking for...I salute you decision to send the knife back....at least it's a start.....Doc :D

I don't think you were necessarily obligated to return it. I think your obligation was to notify the seller and get their instructions.

You deserve credit for showing integrity. Kudos.

Just an observation - your anger seems to reveal that you knew the right thing to do the whole time and were merely looking for validation to do what the flesh, not the Spirit, was leading you to do. The golden rule works both ways, ya know?

You are angry because you started this thread to boast about something you thought was so cool, getting a "free" knife, only to find out that everybody -mostly everybody, I should say- disagrees with you. I could be offended that you think it is only jealousy on my part if only I cared about what you think.
There are four ways to morally "own" something: buying it, earning it, winning it and finding it AND not being able to locate the legitimate owner. That knife showing up at your door does not fit in any of those four categories.

That would be Sal himself. I agree with notifying the seller.

EDIT:
Kudos for sending it back, STi.
