Just disassembled a Tenacious....

#1

Post by Murdoc »

...completely for a thorough cleaning. As with most linerlocks, it is much easier to do so than with a lockback Spydie, especially the FRN Delica/Enduras :)

Anyway, when I saw the knife in parts on my table, I started counting of how much parts this knife actually consists.

Just for the heck of it and for those who didn't already broke down their Tenacious or a similar Spydie: how much parts, do you think, did I count?

Hint: The answer is NOT the same as the one regarding "life, the universe and everything"!

Take a guess... ;)

Dennis

( I reassembled the knife without any damage or problems, by the way ;) )

I'd guess about 13 or so. I'm thinking of three clip screws, pivot screw, two washers, clip, blade, two scales, two liners, and a backspacer off the top of my head, but I'm probably missing some parts. I'm pretty sure my Tenacious only has 2 washers, though-one per side.

Well, to help a little: my Tenacious has 2 washers on every side = 4 in total.

But nobody gave the correct answer till now.... and no, it is NOT 42!! Remember my hint? ;)

such an easy knife to tear down and put back together too, made for an easy time after mine spent 6 weeks lost in the snow in a backyard.

Murdoc, you didn't by chance take any pics of the disassembled Tenacious, did you?

1 Blade
2 liners
2 scales
1 clip
3 clip screws
3 standoffs
6 standoff screws
2 piece pivot screws
1 stop pin
1 lanyard pipe
1 detent ball
2 (possibly 4) washers
--------------------------
So I'd think it's either 25 or 27, depending on the washer count.

Oh yes, I did :)

here goes:

I added the tools I needed to disassemble the knife...

vampyrewolf is correct: As you can see, my Tenacious consists of exactly 26 parts! (I didn't count the detent ball as a seperate piece, Paul. If I did, you would of course have been spot on, but you are right anyway ;) )

More than I thought in the beginning, and that's why I asked in the first place. Most of you did, like me, underestimate the number of pieces needed to create that knife.

Regarding the washers, I think that the guy who finally assembles the knife can choose of different washer thickness and number of washers used to achieve the best fit and centering of the blade. In my case, the blade was centered quite well anyway, so he could use the same amount of washers on either side.

Oh, I thought the answer was "x" plus the one left on the table after you put the knife back together.

Something doesn't look right with those front washers. It looks like there's two different sizes of washers and maybe the small ones are supposed to go up front?

I was one of those people born with a screwdriver in my hand... I have to open everything up at least once if it can be opened up.

While I don't own a tenacious, I've taken a few knives apart over the years... had a pretty good idea on the parts list :p I only had to look at pics to see how many body screws and found a spine shot to see if it was tubes or chicago screws on the body.
