Orange Millies are in regular production now?

#1

Post by 5.56 »

I am a little disappointed.

Originally Spyderco announced the orange Military as a limited 600 piece run. And I am sure many people scrambled to to grab them up and even paid full retail. I remember them being very hard to get at first launch.

And now they renege?

It's nice that they will be more readily available now, but I don't appreciate this type of marketing.

Sorry I am just a little bothered by this.

WHAT!
dang... Thats a bummer, it was really nice when in conversation about that knife (as it draws much attention) to explain it was only a limited 600 piece run. I am a little disappointed as well. While I didn't pay full retail, it was still the most expensive knife in my collection. I kinda hoped I would have at least one knife in my collection that would be a some-what sought after piece.

What makes you say it's regular production now? I thought it was only a sprint too.

There was a post made by Kristi over on BladeForums.

I also thought it was a standard sprint.

Might as well take mine out of the box and start using it then - I guess that's a silver lining of sorts.

Already have an Orange user, it's the two other ones I'm staring glumly at. :(

When I was originally asking about this a while back, I came across a post saying it was a sprint:

"C36GPOR, Orange G-10 Millie. CPM-S30V steel. It's a Sprint Run of 600 pieces.

Not available yet, but coming soon."

I guess it was a misunderstanding. The Spyderco website only says "New - Limited Quantities Available", not sprint run. That's actually what caused my confusion in the first place, because talk here seemed to indicate it was a sprint run, but none of the Spyderco info on it said sprint. Knifeworks and New Graham don't list it as a sprint, but Knife Center still does. Confusing...

Many eBay sellers are claiming 600 sprint runs too. Spyderco should address this, it could be a problem in the future.

The catalog entry on this site no longer says sprint run.

edit - but it still says limited quantities available right above the picture.

Another 'silver lining' to this might be that, if it's regular production now, then it can be offered with SE and black blades. :)

Can an orange Para be far off?

This pisses me off pretty good actually. I bought multipule of the Orange Military just because its a "sprint run" and now out of no where its changed to regular production! Come on Kristi! Whats going on! Its been advertised as a sprint run since the day it was first mentioned. I have newsletters directly from Spyderco saying that they are limited to 600 pieces.

Whats up Kristi?

Regardless of whether it ends being a sprint run or not, they cost exactly the same as the regular ones. Some dealers tried to take advantage of the sprint run thing to sell them closer to MSRP, but most did not. I paid mine 119$ from Cutlery Shoppe.
I hope they make an orange one with black blade, sprint run or not.

I paid the same as any other Military too. I'm not upset about the price, more about missing out, again, on some collectible multiples.

Hey, whatever. I got my knife in the configuration I wanted at the price I wanted. If a "sprint" takes off, then good deal! They gambled on what "we" said would sell and it paid off...and then some. Good on us, good on them.

Most of the time "sprints" are for the afi's. Apparently, this one panned out. Hopefully, the H1 Spyderhawks will too!

I too am a little upset about this. I paid more early to secure mine.

Hopefully they will save face and cut this off at 600 or 1200.

I feel bad for the "afi's" who paid MSRP and bought multiples because this was sold to us as a limited run.

Does this mean more Fanta Millies for all of us to enjoy ? :D :p

Yes, a bit disappointed here as well.. not sure if this is rumour or what unless Kristi or Sal chime in to confrirm or deny.

I'd be curious as to the reasoning. I am sure there is good reason for this - maybe high demand? I'm going to use mine :) ... after I crack open all my CF ones first to do a review of course.
