I was watching Harper's Island (Cable TV Mini-series) and one of the characters (Shane) pulls out a spyderco to carve his name in the bar. It looked like it could have been a tenatious. I'll see if I can get screen shots.

For referance, I live and work in Studio City california where the movies are really made(hollywoods nice and all but studio city and burbank do most of the heavy lifting). but to the point, i met a man today who actually was the prop-masters assistant on the movie Hannibal where the controversial PE potentially rubber harpy picture appeared. i can now quell all these rumors and confirm it is indeed a PE SS harpy, a real one, ad sharp as all get out. the man i met carries it with him every day, and when the original scene was being shot pointed out that Hannibal wouldn't be very likely to carry a blackblade buck 110 knockoff(the original knife intended for use in the movie) so he let good old sir anthony use his Harpy onscreen that day. according to this man sir anthony after the cameras stopped rolling actually offered to buy the harpy from him, but he could not part with it, so after the shoot that day he accompanied sir anthony to my old haunt Ross Cutlery in downtown LA where my friend says sir anthony bought an SE harpy, an ALU civie, and some other Various knives.

so now we know Sir anthony is on our side

Cheers!

I was watching "After the Catch" on Discovery. There is a part of the show were someone from one of the boats cooks something. Edgar from the Northwestern was making fish head soup. To cut the gills off the fish heads up he whips out a Spyderco H1 Mariner. I had to slow it down but I can clearly see the H1 logo. I know Spyderco gave the crew of the Northwestern knives, its nice to see there using them.

In the latest issue of Men's Journal there is a 1 page feature on Mark Burnett (producer of Survivor) and it features the gear he carries. It references that he carries a Spyderco and says that it is a model "like" the Byrd G10 crow (I believe, sorry no pics).

"The Crocodile Cronicles" on Nat Geo. Dr. Brady Barr is shown with what I believe was either a Salt 1 or a Delica 3 PE in his hand getting ready to cut some electrical tape off of the snout of a big alligator. It aired about a year ago on Nat Geo but I don't recall the location or episode title.

Here's the actual quote from the article:

Spyderco Byrd Raven G-10 Knife
“It’s common sense to me to carry a knife,” says Burnett. “It goes back to parachuting and worrying what would happen if Igot stuck in a tree.” He prefers a folding Spyderco similar to the new Raven G-10, a rugged model with a 3.5-inch blade. It won’t stop a charging bear, but a real man uses his fists anyway. [$40; spyderco.com]

A little off topic here....

Post by jezabel »

Bare with me as this might be heading a little off topic here, but this thread's theme is not without a sense of irony for me.

I work in the film/Tv industry, primarily on set for the props dept. As most of you know most knives seen on screen are usually severely blunted for the actors safety. Making knives "safe" is a regular part of my job, while I don't enjoy blunting knives it is a necessary evil.
Anyway in one studio I used to work in the prop knives somehow kept finding their way into the Art dept kitchen where all the food was prepared for on screen. Naturally this caused me a fair share of grief as anytime I needed something cut I was holding knife which would more likely squash a tomato that cut it :(
So rather then sorting the knives out in that kitchen, I started carrying pocket knives. Then, not being able to find any pocket knives which really worked for me eventually led me to Spyderco :p .
I now carry a healthy little Spyderco arsenal to work and are now far better equipped than ever before.

Jez.

P.S. As much as I'd like see more Spydies on screen I dread the day I have to purposely blunt one... I'll have to pass the job on to one of my offsiders and look the other way :o

After some episodes without any SS CE Police occurring, the Spydie saved a life again ... in the show "Life". In the last snaphot, I think you can even see that it features VG10 steel.... extremely close-up this time. Love it :D

Yeah, I saw that the other night and was just getting on here to see if anyone caught that. He was given a pair of meat scissors but said he preferred using his pocket knife. :p

No pic, but I think the knife was a Pro-Venator.

Or maybe Cuba Gooding Jr. had a Pro-Venator? I don't know, I saw the movie once and it was a long time ago. I could swear I saw a Pro-Venator in there somewhere.

Not sure if this has been posted but on the network CBS the show "NCIS" in the episode "Enigma" a Marine CO uses a Spyderco to cut himself free in the beginning, and then he throws it in an enemy. Not sure on the model, its an all Stainless Steel model, any idea?

Dare. Risk. Dream.

"Your body may be gone, I'm gonna carry you in.
In my head, in my heart, in my soul.
And maybe we'll get lucky and we'll both live again.
Well I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Don't think so."

I don't think I have posted this one here, but this is from a recent "Dexter" episode.

Judging by the oversized spyderhole and sheepsfoot, this could be a pacific salt.

It`s amazing that spydies are used quite often in movies and regular tv shows.

I'm beginning to understand why people freak when they see a knife.

They are getting a lot of bad publicity. They ought to start showing where these knives can be used in a positive way in situations showing how they can save a life instead of taking lives.

It's like motorcycles. Showing a guy commuting to work on a bike to conserve gas and parking space isn't nearly as interesting outlaw bikers.
