Old NIB C01 Worker on the way... I am excited!

Just wanted to share my excitement with you all, since you'll understand me :D

Finally, I managed to find one of my (small) holy grails of Spydies!
It seems odd, but over here in Europe, it is not the easiest job to find a NIB original worker. It seems that not too many of them made it over here... or their owners don't want to part with it ;) You should think that the model that was first in the lineup and stayed there for so many years, should be easier to find...

But thanks to SSB, I discovered one in Canada. Right now, it is on the way to Germany, and I can't wait to finally hold the first Spyderco model ever in my hands (and put it to light EDC duty, of course :) ).

So, to celebrate that, how about some stories/pics/reviews about the knife that started it all? Sal, you are invited to share some trivia (or whatever you feel like) with us :)
I'll add some pics as soon as it arrives, of course!

I've often wondered the same thing. Even in the used marketplace C01 Workers just don't turn up very often. With all of the runs that were made over the years you'd think they'd be easier to find.

Congratulations, I think it is not easy to find them anywhere, especially if you are talking about original run.

My Worker was the first Spyie I bought. Carried and used for several years, so not new at all. But still in great shape and quite useable.

As promised..... today the knife arrived and I immediately went outdoors for a quick photoshooting. Nothing fancy, just to show off a little ... :D

It seems to have been SLIGHTLY sharpened before. It isn't exactly pristine, but good enough for me :)

The "false edge" should in fact be sharp like the normal edge, isn't it? Or did that change over the years? By the way, when do you think this knife was built?

The edge on the upper side of the tip were fairly sharp on the early C01 Workers and as I understand it, they were intended to serve as a cutting edge for string and other tasks where a quick cut was needed without fully opening the blade. My observation has been that the upper edge became less and less sharp over time. Since your knife has ATS-55 steel, it was made toward the end of production on the C01. So I'd guess that the upper edge on your knife is hardly sharp at all.

Funny ,my EDC today was my Gin1/tufram handled Worker. I really love that knife. Tufram sucked on big knives like The police I have because it was so slippy but on the small worker with the big clip you don't even notice and it makes for a very slick and good looking handle. I love the dark colour on mine as well and the Gin1 serrations are as sharp or sharper than any other serrated knife I have ever handled. Not sure why it is not like Gin1 is super steel. Maybe it is just easy to sharpen? My Worker really feels like a fully serrated caly3. If you hold one on top of the other they are identical blade edges and very similar handles although the Caly3 has a nicer choil.

Imagine how crazy these must have looked "back in the day"? While I do EDC mine once in a while I am pretty easy on it.

Congratulations on your "new" knife. Enjoy it, I think it is a great design even according to nowadays standards. :cool:
A friend of mine customized his Worker with blue G-10 handles. Can't tell you how cool does it look.
