Mourning my Para

#1

Post by jezabel »

After a frantic pack up at work today I discovered something wasn't in my pocket. ... My D2 Para was gone. :(
... and trying to find a foliage green knife at night in the bush is no easy task.
This had served me well for last 8 months, I had never spent a day with out it since I purchased it. It was sporting a lot of battle scars and more recently a Delica like ground tip after an unfortunate tip breakage (caused by me).
This will be sorely missed. I'm back at the same location tomorrow so wish me luck in finding it.
I cannot do with out this knife as the D2 Para is undoubtedly my perfect EDC, so hopefully I wont have to buy another one just yet.... that would eat in to my Rock Lobster & ZDP Stretch fund!!
In the meantime I think I'll have to try the mighty Chinook out at work... ;)

Good luck with your search and rescue operation. I love my D2 Para, too.

Good luck from a Para lover himself. The D-2 is not my EDC but missing it and not having it would surely dissapoint me and my pocket. Hope you find it realy soon.

I feel your pain. A couple weeks ago I lost my Bob Lum Chinese Folder in the woods. It's hopelessly lost. I was very sad.

I replaced it with a Sage and I'm happy again.

Sorry for your loss, I hope it turns up.
You don't think it got deleted along with the :spyder: ring thread do you? :D
Just kidding. I thought this forum was for general discussion on :spyder: products that could be. O well. :(
I'd rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

Have access to a metal detector? Might save you some time in the search, especially if it was lost in tall grass.

Sorry to hear. Good luck finding it. I just lost my Delica that I've been carrying for the past year.

Found!

#12

Post by jezabel »

Well I went past the location at first light this morning. Sitting there in a Flax bush clipped up high a leaf was be beloved D2 Para looking like it was posing for a clipit catalog photo shoot :D :D.... in the same spot that I'd searched relentlessly last night.
It was sporting some minor surface rust surface from spending the night in the rain, but other than that was fine. I quickly made up an improvised lanyard out of some fluoro gaff tape to stop it hiding from me today.
As you might have guessed I'm much happier today!!

Congrats! The question that comes to mind is of course:

How comes that it was CLIPPED to a bush and not just laying around in the grass? Do you think somebody found it and decided to clip it to the bush at eye level in case the owner will come back and look for it?

or did you somehow manage to catch the bush with the clip, sliding the knife out of your pocket unnoticed?

I'm guessing that this is what happened. It's actually more common than you'd think when the knife is clipped to the pocket. This is the reason why when I'm out hunting and walking through brush I always carry deep in my pocket rather than clipped.

I've had knives get pulled out of my pocket when the clip catches on something. Fortunately no Spydercos has been permanently lost but I did lose a CRKT M16 when it must have been jarred lose from a back pocket.

..... Very easily, Flax leaves are very long and stiff ( 3 - 6ft or so) I had pushed them down to gain access to some signage I was working on. The leaf naturally would have sprung back and lifted my knife out. When I was searching for the knife at night I instinctively looked on the ground.

Man, I bet you feel relived!!! I know I have thought about that with my Camo Black bladed Para....how the **** will I ever find it if it drops out of my pocket in the woods somewhere? I think a nice lanyard with red or orange would work
