Just Saw One - Phone Number 4 U

Post by spinynorman »

Just saw one yesterday at the Kittery Trading Post in Kittery Maine, used but looks excellent. I think it was $75. Their number is 207-439-2700 - ask for the archery department, that's the nearest to the knives. They will be happy to take a credit card and ship it to you. :)

Good Luck!
Doug

I just called them - it is still there, as of 4:55 pm on Tuesday, and it's an SE. Call 'em quick! (The KTP is my favorite store!)

There was one on Ebay last week or so for $50 buy-it-now price. They do turn up on Ebay from time to time, but much less frequently than they used to. It's a great little knife and I think you'll really enjoy it once you get your hands on one. Definitely the smoothest-opening of all the C09 CoPilot varieties (and also the lightest weight!).

If it's an SE (serrated edge) then it's not the C09BKP CoPilot from the 2006 Sprint Run. The Sprint Run knives had black almite-coated handles were only made with PE blades. Spyderco did make another aluminum-handled CoPilot (the C09ATU) but it had Tufram coated handles rather than almite-coated ones. Those knives were made with SE blades only. FWIW.

Given your location, you may have a problem. From what I understand, the do-gooders in your country have intimidated eBay into making it quite difficult for anyone in the UK to use eBay to purchase knives, even from eBay sellers outside the UK.

I've also heard rumors/reports that UK Customs is going to heroic lengths lately to label any locking folder being privately imported from the USA as a "flick knife" if it can be opened by grasping the blade between thumb and forefinger and snapping one's arm violently enough to cause the handle to swing down and lock, and use that as grounds to confiscate it. I can assure you, based on a test I just performed with mine, that it does not take a 1000 lb. gorilla to do this with one of the Sprint Run Almite CoPilots.

No rumours, its all true.

If you fancy a laugh heres one for you, a guy bought a UKPK from a US seller and it was confiscated.

The UKPK, a knife solely designed to be legal in the United Kingdom, confiscated by customs for no reason other than some jobs worth got bored...

Its doesn't happen with all knives though, just a minority.

Ebay is definately a no-no however as even if i log into my account on ebay US and try to buy a knife it won't allow me to.

Oh well. I couldn't tell from looking through the glass at it. :( Sorry you live with those restrictions in the UK. BTW, what's a "jobs worth"? Something along the line of a pinhead or numbskull, I suppose. Well deserved. :D

Sorry to hear of the problems buying a simple knife.

My Father was born in London, moved to the USA, and became a citizen. I have many relatives in London, and I have always loved my trips there, I used to spend summers at my uncles house.

I was married in St. Andrews Scotland.

I just do not understand what has happened to England. What happened to British common sense? We gave the world common sense. I was born in California, however, I am part British, and this makes me feel awful.

I really wish I could help you get the knife.

Best of luck in your quest.

Thanks Toad, its a sad state of affairs right now, the whole ''Knives are bad'' thing from the PC brigade is starting to grate on me now

I am just waiting for the day when a bill is passed that all knives are banned, watching us revert back to beings less than cavemen is going to be quite hilarious  :D

I will check out Jeffs website and get in touch with him, alternatively if someone here has one they want to shift PM me.

I hope i get one soon, my SS Co-Pilot is starting to get lonely! :p :)

Thanks everyone!

I read a really sad/fightening story over on bladeforums where a guy in the UK got into some scuffle (dont know how bad...) and he had a UKPK. He volunteered that he had it on him (since its 'legal' there). The policeman looked at it and said it was it was illegal. Of course, he argued the law and the policeman reverted to the fact that it was threatening or something like that and said he had to confiscate it...I dont remember all details, but in the end - the guy said the policeman probably kept it for himself and he was totally frustrated to have this happen to him. Not fun.
