First off, thanks to whomever it was who gave me the link to MI knife laws...just what I needed! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
Secondly, I have to say, it was EXTREMELY nice of ATE to send a new Delica to the gentleman in Romania (It was Romania, right?) Either way, what a stand-up group of people.
Now, if I may pick your collective brains once again...
My in-laws live in L.A., CA, and I am curious as to which knives are legal to carry there. I carried my LW PE Native over XMas last year, but I have no idea if it was legal. I now own a SS SE Delica, and have no idea if it is legal, either. I hate to travel bladeless, but I have no desire to go against local ordinance, either.
Any Californians who can help me out?
Thanks,
Xibalba

Hey Xibalba :
Seems that the Peoples Republic of California
is more lenient on knives than guns. You can
even carry a switchblade ( boo, hiss!) w/ a
blade under 2" ; I guess it's not much different than down here in the "Gunshine State" being that a "common pocketknife" is O.K., it's just that I don't know if it has to be carried in the open in California. You
might want to log-on to Bladeforums.com and
ask the forumites there ( they have a whole forum dedicated to knife laws. Or, failing that try : www.findlaw.com ) Things can't be ANY worse than Communist Connecticut ( sadly,
the "Constitution State"<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> where one HAS to carry concealed, and , if you get stopped, run the risk of a CDW ( Carrying a Deadly
"Weapon" ); they profess that the blade can be "under 4".." but the cops up there will
still charge you thus anyway <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> and impound your "weapon" and good luck in court. ( Glad
I fled that scene! )I reason that if you can "get away" with a switchblade. you should
have no problem with anything else ( other than guns! )Check with findlaw.com and report back to this thread if somethings amiss.

Spyderbyte,
If you are in San Antonio, be careful. They have made locking blades illegal there. <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Spyderbyte, Ken,
I don't have any idea why they did this. They only reason I know about the law is that we couldn't get into Fiesta Texas carrying one, they said that it was San Antonio law. They didn't even care that we had badges! (Badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> )We could have, however, carried our guns in the park. Who knows. You might try an online search for San Antonio City Government to access the laws.

Are knife laws generally enforced in the absence of other crimes? I'm just wondering how much to worry about the letter of the law. I drive up and down the East Coast fairly regularly, all the way from Boston to Miami with a 50/50 Endura in one pocket and a Navigator in the other. Do I really need to worry about the knife laws for every state I travel to? Any advice appreciated...

Hey comrade & ALL
My cousin ( the West Haven, Ct. cop ) told me
like this : "..generally, if you're not causing a problem, and "passing through" a
particular city / state the matter "slides"
( other than w/ guns ( no permit )).." <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
