Hi Jeff, thanks for the fun.
If there would be a trial and error contest, (allowing say, 14 tryouts for instance... :rolleyes :) , I would dare to guess the exact number. ;)
Unfortunately, without any clues during the contest, all that remains is blind luck.

Ok, fair 'nuff. Here's a few clues:

1) As of this posting, about 7 or 8 of you have "boxed-in" N. Earlier it was 9. ;)

2) One contestant who has not "boxed-in" N is less than 100 away from N.

I'd like to watch what strategies come from these little clues :D

Thanks for the Contest.

I'll try 3493 and 3612.

I'm guessing from your quote of Ueshiba Sensei that you're involved in Aikido. I never got into it but my father told me that Ueshiba Sensei came and stayed with my grandfather when he came and visited Hawaii back in the 60's.
