Pics of June 09 Release LUM

#1

Post by JspyEDC »

Moteng rep came by the office today and I grabbed the camera phone for a couple quick clandestine pics. This is a Moteng exclusive Lum folder scheduled for June '09 release.

VG-10 steel, anodized aluminum scales. Between blue/green and green/blue. Do not know the official color/name/sku. Very nice, though. Moteng also will have a Black Blade version.

This is great. Just got the Black Lum and it is an amazing knife. I actually prefer Vg-10 so I am excited to see a new run of Vg-10 Lums.

Agreed, I had thought about getting a backup black Lum but now will do your plan in getting two VG-10 Lums.

So if Moteng only takes dealer orders, how does the average joe get one of these Lums? Will the regular dealers like New Graham, Knife Center, etc. sell these to regular customers? And what will the street price likely be? And where do I sign up? :)

It just means only Moteng dealers will be selling them. I expect it wont be as hard to find as you think. There are alot of us Spyderco dealers that also get stuff from Moteng (prob just not Spydies)

Only thing is, based on those pictures, it's going to mean a lot of confusion for collectors, as it's not easy to distinguish from the original blue one by just looking at a photo. I'm sure that's not a problem if you have it in your hand, or are buying from a reputable dealer, but as soon as they enter the "secondary market" there's bound to be some confusion.

May be it is just lighting, but this FG looks much better than regular FG

That's what I was thinking.... They are very close in color.

Doesn't the original blue one have the Lum logo?

I like the color, but wish :spyder: would move away from the almite. I really liked using the green Lum I had, but did not like the feel/lack of grip of the almite. I think that G-10, linen micarta or peel ply CF with nested liners would make this knife a great user, that is still atractive.

That is a good point. I think the original blue one has Lum logo on 'front' side of blade, while the new Moteng one appears to have the Spyder (and probably Lum logo on the other side like the ZDP version?)

It's cool that the Lum design lives on, in another incarnation. That blue color looks good.

I was hoping the Foliage green was the greyish green of full thickness hard anodize, but I'm not sure. Hard anodize is very hard and durable and doesn't scratch as easily as almite.

Not sure I'm getting one, had one on preorder.. Cancelled that in favour of a second Ti Sage :D
