i'm so glad to see that there's so much love and anticipation for the chokwe!

i've been carrying my proto non-stop the last couple weeks... its pretty hard to give it objective consideration, but... it really is one of my top three spydies... tied with the mili and pacific. it's a better round the house / chore / vegetable / kitchen folder than my mili (my most carried spydie until the chokwe)... not quite as suited to outside stuff in alaska's temperate rainforests as my pacific salt, but... the geometry and story behind it make it really stand out.

you're going to love this knife! :D

I'm extremely interested in finding out what Doc Snubnose's SD techniques for the Chokwe will be like...

the holes in the scales certainly provide some interesting grip options... :D

I too am looking forwards to the Chokwe. Lately I have really fallen in love with Chris Reeve's integral lock and I am looking forwards to my favorite manufacturer making knives with my favorite lock! And what a reasonable price, too!

hey guys!

I read that MSRP is expected to be $260. that would probably make street price $150 shipped, for you ebayers.

at its thickest point, the blade is as thick as the pacific salt... but it tapers the closer you get to the tip. the FFG is GREAT. the tip feels a big more hardy than the tip on the smith. just perfect for EDC, and precise cuts, if you ask me. it's one heck of a slicer. :D :D

secspyral -- while there is no choil, your hand will be protected from slipping onto the blade by:

1. subtle but effective jimping
2. the purchase of G10
3. the holes in the handle, which can help give certain grips additional purchase
4. the swelling of the blade shape at the ricasso
5. the subtle curve to the handle of the knife

i've played with mine for hours and hours... mindlessly opening and closing it, and changing grips... still haven't had my hand slide onto the blade... :D

the coolest part is... it really feels like a chokwe knife. :D

i'm looking forwards to getting one pimped out as my ultimate dress knife... maybe with a bolster, like the original. :D

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

I'm not too fond of knives without a choil and just can't get warmed up to liner lock type knives. I'm also a lefty which presents more issue's with this type of knife. That said, I keep looking at the video Wouter posted and I am really liking this knife. I like Wharnies and while this one isn't, it looks pretty close.

I guess there has been no date of release yet. Very cool design.

bluntrauma -- if you decide to give the chokwe a chance, let us know if you agree with me that the design helps compensate for the lack of a choil... :D

I certainly will and I'm afraid my curiosity will overwhelm my checklist of things I don't like. :D

I'm right handed but have no problem handling Sage or Milly with my left hand. Opening or closing in number of different ways, no problem. So in my book liner lock is OK for left hand, and more so frame lock like RIL on Chokwe.
