no :spyder: . none. at all. not even a native. All that was there was a tiny glass counter with pictures of some knives, mostly gerbers and bucks.

I walked out of there mad, but at least i got a water filter :)

Next weekend I may hit up the super wal-mart not too far away. and one more camping store. If those fail, that means there are NO LOCAL SPYDIE RESALERS!!!

Where are you located? I have looked around a few Walmart's in BC, but all of them are just like what you described

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

I feel your pain. I have searched quite a few Wal Mart's in central NY for Spyderco knives (specifically any remaining Natives). Unfortunately they only carry Bucks, Gerbers and Kershaws. They're shown on a big picture behind glass. Most of the models they carry are less than impressive but priced to match. The black Kershaw Blur Tanto was the best of their offerings recently. However, I am not an AO fan and didn't care for the tanto blade.

I asked an employee behind the sporting goods counter and asked what happened with all the knives, and he said that all of the walmart stores were changing the knife stock and he said they were going to bring in a whole different line of knives, and that he didnt know exactly what types of knives they were going to bring in. The rumor i heard was that they were going to stock a lot more spyderco knives. They allready have a decent selection of spydies online through walmart. Here is the link,http://www.walmart.com/search/search-ng ... &Find=Find

While at my local Wal-Mart the other week, I too walked by the sporting goods counter and they still have the Native pictured on their display board. When I inquired about whether they actually had any in stock, I got a big, fat "No" for my answer. The guy seemed annoyed that I was even asking.

This is probably just that: a rumor. While I'm not surprised that Wal-Mart doesn't carry Spyderco knives in store anymore, I would think that the Byrd lineup would be a great fit for Wal-Mart's target market. The typical consumer doesn't know enough about knives for them to pay $40 for the Native when they can get ____ brand for $15-20. To them a knife is a knife. Byrd pricing ($18-23) is much more in line with the Wal-Mart ethos and would probably move a lot more $volume$.

Even if they did sell them I would keep buying them online. I just don't care for Walmart. Our local one has done this cool trick so they don't actually have to hire cashiers, they have two cash registars open and the rest is self-use cash registars. Most people can't work an ATM let alone scan their own purchases, so you can see how this works, massive lineups and only two cashiers. Personally I got better things to do then sit in line at Walmart half the day. Plus when you buy online you usually supporting a B&M store somewhere.

I'd love to have a self check-out Walmart. As a cashier (for myself) I would give all sorts of product discounts and I would always give a free chocolate bar for customer loyalty :D

I Finally Found A Super Walmart , ( Which Still Sold Shotguns And Rifles ! ) They Too Had A Picture Of The S30v Native. Of Course When I Finally Got Some Help I Was Told They Were Out. I Missed Out On The Walmart Natives. The Salesman Was Nice Though. He Was A Kershaw Fan.

That sounds like wal-marts way of thinking.I wished they would stock up with the ones they have online, and a few others not shown online. There definitely not going to stock what they cant sell.

I have wanted to add a native since forever, and I noticed the new displays like others have, but I also got an even more disturbing reply from one of the associates.

they clearanced them out for $20

I am just ill.

My money has been tight even before the economy knew better, and my chance at getting one at a price I could afford is gone(not that $40 was a bad price but there is a reason I didn't jump on it sooner)

So right now my ladybug sits alone.

It is the most awesome 3 finger knife in existence though

My local Wal-Mart said the new display with Bucks, Gerbers, etc, had just been put in and they had no spyderco's or byrds anymore. He said they hadn't had any in stock for awhile, anyway.

This thread needs a comment from someone at Spyderco.

I've always wondered how Spyderco made money on the Native's Wally World sales. Spyderco's domestic supply chain may be better utilized producing other knives.
Not really all that slick ;)

Looks like no more Natives but they've picked up a few Kershaws in the same +/-$40 price range. They seem like ok knives, made in the USA, but they're not Spydercos.
