(I don't mean to hijack your thread with a non-model specific response, but my response does apply to your question on the Mini Manix)
I've vacillated between between tip up and tip down carry for a long time, at least for models that offer the option. This is what I settled on:
IWB: tip down, especially for larger models (Mini Manix and larger). It puts my thumb closer to the hole at the draw. But a bigger reason is comfort. In the tip up configuration there's more of the round pointy butt end of the handle to jab into my belly as I sit or bend. This is more noticable with a handle in the shape of the P3. However, it's not such a big deal with every model and I will sometimes carry IWB tip up.
RFP: tip up, blade spine against pants seam. Only reason is for comfort. In tip down configuration and blade facing towards my body, the thumb choil jimping roughs up my right hand too much everytime I reach into my pocket for keys, coins, etc.. Carrying tip up solves the problem. In RFP, speed of draw, for me, is relatively the same in either tipup and tipdown, so speed is not a factor to me. I'm just as slow and clumbsy either way :)

^^^This. It's nicer to have the blade tucked against the pants seam so your hand can slide down the smooth flat of the handle when you reach in for coins and keys.Mako109 wrote: ...tip up, blade spine against pants seam. Tip-Up
Tip up is so much easier and much more natural. Only really really large knives IMO does it make sense to carry Tip-Down..... The Mini-Manix is definitely small enough to that tip-up makes the most sense.
But the Civilian and the Military seam perfect Tip-Down.
On the other hand...
I carried 2 different CRKT M-16's for years. A M16-13 and a M16-01 EDC.
Both small knives. And both it made much more sense for them Tip-Down.
With the flipper sticking out, and using the flipper for deployment... It was just, better.
IDK Try both ways. And pick the one that feels more comfortable.

This is true. Unfortunately, I don't carry my knife in a pocket by itself, and with most Spydies, the hump where the hole is irritates me when I reach in the pocket to grab something else if I'm carrying tip down. For that reason, I carry tip-up in most cases.bladese97 wrote: :spyder: :spyder:  :spyder: :spyder:I've carried mine in tip-up, and tip-down, and I prefer tip-down, because I don't need to regrip when it is deployed! I carry my Mini-Manix tip up in the front left pocket. I find that it is easier to get my hand into my pocket with the knife in the tip up possition because I can slide down the back of the knife by the lock much nicer. When the knife is tip up I find it sticks out of my pocket too much and makes getting my hand in there very difficult. It may be a pocket full but it is my favorite hard use ECD.

When you are right-handed, tip-up butts the blade spine against the rear seam of your front pocket, away from your hand. Your hand glides down the back of the handle of the knife to get keys and change.guntotin_fool wrote:OK picture this, reach into your pocket and be greeted by a razor sharp point and shaving sharp edge running into your thumb web and fingers.
yeah tip down is the way to go. People who say the above doesn't happen haven't carried a knife long enough.

I used to be totally tip down guy for the advantage of the hole being close to thumb - especially on larger knives, but I am now a tip up convert for the comfort of my hand running/rubbing the spine instead of the blade/choil. Carrying my Kopa convinced me of this...I have officially reversed my position on this that I think I touted last year sometime. Live and learn!
