Picture request C54 Calypso

#1

Post by Netsquash »

Does anybody have an pictures of the C54 Calypso? Maybe with a comparison to the Police3 and possibly the Endura4?

To me it seems like a very attractive blade from the tiny picture I have seen of it. I am also a huge fan of Micarta.

Thanks

I have E4 and P3 but no Calypso. Still want a pic of those two or you want all together?

The E4 and P3 were for comparison. I own a Police3 and Endura4 so I figured based on their size they would be a good reference. I am a huge fan of both the E4 and P3 and figured the Calypso might fall into that category.

From my reading I have discovered the Calypso is actually unlined micarta. Unfortunately the unlined part is a deal breaker for me. I like micarta but I would need it to be steel lined. Everything about the blade shape and handle is amazing but I need those steel liners.

I would still like to see a picture though if anyone has one.

The Deacon has it right (as usual). The current Police 3, is very similar to the classic C54 Calypso, slightly less belly, slightly straighter spine, slightly larger overall, and the handle shape is straighter. If you do a search for picture request c54 calypso, you'll be able to find some useful pics. Change the handle shape slightly and add a lanyard hole (present in the C54, missing in the current G10 Police3) and it pretty much would be a C54.5. Haven't carried my C54 in years, but should pull the trigger on the Police3 to see if it can compete with the ZDP Stretch2 for my "big knife" starting spot.

Thank you for this. I was just about to ask this exact kind of question.

Yes, you do. In any of the forms, it is an absolute classic. Stainless, Micarta or lightweight - they're all great.

Love it. Would take the Dragonfly over any other knife of its class. I carry mine in my watch pocket (clip attached), and mostly grip it with between thumb and forefinger using the choil (rather large hands, gripping further back is a bit impractical for me). Don't personally need a lanyard, but I bet it'd feel great with one. If I carry both the Stretch and Dragonfly I pull the D'fly 75% of the time.

From my reading I have discovered the Calypso is actually unlined micarta. Unfortunately the unlined part is a deal breaker for me. I like micarta but I would need it to be steel lined. Everything about the blade shape and handle is amazing but I need those steel liners.
