For me, my eyes liked the Cricket but my wallet liked the Dragonfly. After a week with my Dragonfly I was addicted! :) Which knife got you hooked?

The Kiwi. Bought my first jigged bone one, used, as a substitute for the C27 Jess Horn I couldn't afford at the time. Was not at all sure if I'd actually like it or not, but the price was right. Fell in love with the little guys and have carried one ever since.

My two other favorites, the C83 Persian and the C90 Stretch, were a bit different. In both cases I saw a picture and was dead sure they'd feel great in my hand. That, at least for me, is generally a recipe for disaster when the item is unable to live up to my lofty expectations. Those two proved the exception to that, and have been competing for pocket time ever since.

Ladybug... which sort of accidentally ended up in my hands when I went looking for a small pocket knife. At almost the same time a complementary knife to match the Ladybug was the Chinook II. The Native was right on its heels. All three I got in my first order.

The Persian also got me in a similar way that it did for Paul. Saw it, assessed it and thought it would suit me.... and it does :p Kopa was also like the Persian.

Actually, I can't really remember - it was so many knives ago! My first Spydie was a Centofante III, which didn't get me hooked, but I did buy another Spydie, it was either the Endura III or the Meerkat which came next, and from then on I was pretty much hooked.

My first was an old delica with the plastic clip. The more people commented on how ugly it was, the more I loved it.

The Khalsa. It looked so radical, yet functional; I had to have it. It let me know that this was an out of the ordinary knife company.

Without doubt the 1st generation Endura in G-2 ( Gin 1). The steel chart/info that came along with it got me interested in different stainless steels, and I liked the performance of the Gin 1. I still do in fact.

Before that there was "surgical stainless" , "solingen stainless" or "solingen steel", but everybody knew the only really good knife steels were carbon steels.

Spyderco not only changed my idea of what ergonomics should be, and what I liked, but it opened me up to the idea of stainless steels actually being different, with some good and some bad.

This helped lead me down the trail to becoming a steel junky. I still prefer alloy steels ( M4, M2, Vascowear,3V, O-1, A2,Aogami, etc.) but I have developed respect for, and happiness with the better stainless steels like ZDP 189 ( my favorite), VG10, S90V, S30V, BG42 ( 2nd favorite), S110V, etc.

So much of what I now prefer was brought about, or influenced in one way or another by our one and only Mr. Sal G.

Thanks Sal, Eric, Kristi,Joyce and the rest of the Spyderco team. Joe

For me it was a C14 Rescue (w/integral clip in AUS-8). One of my first knives, and I still have it. Fully serrated, wicked sharp -- it scared the heck out of guys that I was assigned with for a short tour in KSA.

For me it was the C03 SS Hunter. I didn't have a lot of knives back then. A Gerber folding Hunter (still have it) and a Buck Esquire (long since lost).

Working in the Gulf I used it a lot to cut buoy line and such. I couldn't believe the great innovations on this knife. The Spyderhole! A pocket clip (I'd never seen a knife with a pocket clip before) Wow! I was SO HOOKED.

Unfortunately SS is slippery and one day Ole' Davy Jones decided he wanted my Hunter.

Looking back I "almost" wish I was still working there so I could use my Tasman. That knife is designed for THAT job.

The one that started me was the C11 Delica. It was a First Generation with a fully-serrated AUS-8 blade and integral plastic clip and it was quickly followed by a similar fully-serrated First Generation Endura.

I bought a bunch of used knives in 2006 to try different brands and models out. Among these was a Delica 2 in AUS 6. It sat for a while while I carried others. I had just decided that I prefered Kershaw (still love the 90 degree detent especially), when I tried carrying the Delica. The more I used it the more I liked it.

Then in 2007 I started admiring the Kiwi and finally bought one in 2008. that sealed the deal. I have a dozen now and just ordered three more this morning.

The C01 Worker.

That was in 1981, when the Worker was the only model available (at least to my knowledge). Choices were simpler then :) I was looking over an uninspiring display of Gerbers, Kershaws, Buck 110 and 110 look alikes, when the shiny glint of the all stainless steel Worker caught my eye. All stainless steel knives were around then but not that common. Then the "hole", which was really odd looking at the time, and then the clip which I had not seen before. I instantly knew I was looking at something special, and once the shop owner demonstrated the fit, finish, and one handed operation, I was hooked.
