Delica Flatground bladeswap

Now I am sure I'm not the first person to do this... but I did a quick search and didn't come up with much so I figured I'd post my 2 cents.

Let me start by saying I am a huge flatground blade fan. They look great, they cut great, and they weight very little.

I'd say I'm a minimalist when it comes to an everyday carry situation. I don't carry a multitool or a flashlight or any of that stuff... I have a small moneyclip, a small set of keys, my Blackberry Pearl and my knife. Thats it. I like a knife that's very lightweight, if it's too heavy I have a tendency to only carry it sometimes and then I don't always have it when I need it. When I'm hiking or camping, those knives get beat but in an EDC situation, I am pretty easy on my knives so a small lightweight folder is just the ticket.

I really love the size and ergos of the Delica, and I swear it's the perfect size for EDC... I've had one for awhile but it spent most of it's life in a drawer. I am just not a fan of the delica blade... (Plz dont burn me at the stake) To me it's just overly thick for such a little lightweight knife. It always looked out of place to me and probably added a few unnecessary ounces. (My current EDC is a 1.25oz Al Mar Falcon) And yes I have held a Caly3 and I do like them, just a tad bulky for my taste, Spydercos G10 is pretty ruff on my pants pocket too... and I haven't warmed up to the blade shape yet...

So when I saw the G10 Delica and all of it's flatground goodness I got pretty excited. The G10 even had beveled edges (another big plus in my book)... Then I held one... and I knew it was just heavier than I would like for everyday. But the gears were turning... That beefy hollow-ground blade would look more at home on the G10 Delica, along with those thick liners and wider handle and I could finally have that nice flatground blade on my little lightweight EDC Nylon Delica!

Ok enough already! :D Pictures:

You sir have just made a near perfect knife. Why Spyderco doesn't sell them like this is way beyond me.

A FRN FFG Delica? Sounds like the best knife possible to me.

Sal, if you decide to make one and it costs what a normal Delica costs (I don't see why it wouldn't) I swear right now, I will buy three of them.

I have the feeling that it would be one of the best sellers ever. It would put the hurt on a lot of other models however but it would sell like hot cakes.

Yeah, and FFG FRN Delica would solve a lot of my problems with the Sabre grind. I would definitely buy several.
Top :spyder:s : Caly 3, Stretch, Millie, Manix 2, Police, Kopa, Polliwog, Meerkat, Chinook III, and SuperHawk.

Looks great. I've thought of doing something similar. Was it difficult to do? I now have the right screwdrivers. What else should I be careful about? Any advice would be appreciated.

Nice job! But for probably less than half the price of the G-10 donor Delica, you could have sent it to Tom Krein for one of his famous regrinds. I did just that with my PE D4W and it is easily one of the sharpest knives in my collection. Tom does a GREAT job on regrinds, and is fast and inexpensive to boot. You might want to do that with your "new" G-10 Delica so you can have two FFG Deli-lasers! :D

That sounds like a very decent option. I'll try to find his info and drop him an email to find out a price...
