Not with a Spyderco :D
...well, maybe the Adventura has some room for improvement... ;)

Calypso Jr. - I picked up one of the Burgundy laminated ZDP-189 versions when they 1st came out. Idea was for it to be my new Work EDC. Put it in the pocket of my scrubs and took it to work. Opened 1 box with it and did not like how my index finger was in the forward choil. I just prefer my finger to be safer from the edge, never liked traditional puukkos for the same reason. Picked up a SE Delica in ZDP-189 to replace it as my work EDC. Now the Calypso Jr. sits in the box unused and I think about selling it, but stop myself because of how popular they got and it being Spyderco's 1st use of ZDP-189 steel. Need a new Computer monitor so I am getting tempted to sell again.

ParaMilitary - Got a SE ParaMilitary used off Ebay for $50 for use as a yardwork beater. Again I was not too fond of the forward choil positioning, but the handle was big enough to choke back on it. Biggest issue ended up being clip related. The ParaMilitary rode high in my pocket and after I'd finish mowing the grass I'd have dirt and debris all in the lock & pivot area. The clip edges were also sharp and I had to take some sandpaper to them to dull the edges. Finally sold it for a bit more than I bought it.

My first Spydie and EDC was a Carbon Fiber Cricket. Loved it loved it loved it. Had it for about a year and lost it. **** things so small easy to lose. Got another and kept as safe queen. 1 Home invasion later gone. Didn't think much about replacing it but wound up buying a stainless version in one of those overpriced mall stores. The parents and wife rolled there eyes at how much I was paying (even though it was not that bad for one of those places), just more than they would ever spend on any knife). This became my new best friend for the next 3-4 years. I loved it. Well not to long ago I deceided to revisit the CF cricket. SInce this was the knife of knives to me I felt like acquiring another safe queen. Well you know what. I hated it. SO much so I sold it. It was way to thick (compared to the stainless version) and I am not sure if the CF changed but I didn't like the looks of it anymore either. Man how disappointing. But I do love me the new style. Plus now I have several other Spydie models. Woo hoo

The Ocelot.....loved the ergos and size....just couldn't get beyond the "cut out" paw prints. If Spyderco ever decides to re-issue that knife with solid G-10 I think they would have a winner.

The Native 4 was a big let down for me.
Just did not have the same feel as the FRM Native.
I think if they made it thicker it would have felt better.

I just didn't bond with a U2. I bought the knife to try the Super Gold Powdered Steel, more or less the replacement steel for ZDP 189. I really haven't carried the knife or evaluated the steel. It is kind of like going to DOS from an IMac. Spyderco builds into every knife a lot of user interface...Take Care...Ed

Sure, lots of them.

Thats why we "collect" :)

Honestly though, my most carried every day Spyderco's are the Stretch II, Dodo, police III & smoothed CF tip up S90v Mili.

At the other end, had (2) NIB Ti Salsa's. Traded 'em off recently.
Kept the (2) alum models. Go figure.

The other 40 bugs mainly just sit and wait their turn.

More S90v & CF please.......

native 4

count another one for the native 4. The wait time to get one was unbearable and when I finally held one Iwas let down. I believe its cool to change knives little by little and I think almost redoing a knife totally is very risky. Some diehard native fans will not be happy. I thought CF scales would be cool but it isn't grippy and I find myself using my native II instead. I actually found a rare native II recently that doesn't have a swedge and its probably my fav knife since the tip seems rock solid witout a swedge there.

A question on the CF on the Native. Is it the same as the T-Mag?

I don't know if it's the same CF but I can tell you that the CF on the Native 4 is much smoother than the T-Mag, almost like glass

I have a few Spydies that fall into this category:

Paramilitary: Carried it for awhile and used it extensively for a few months. Found that the handle was a bit too small to get four fingers behind the choil, but using the choil was a bit awkward since the blade profile is designed for harder use, which in my mind necessitates having the hand positioned further from the blade. Just didn't feel that safe. Tip down became annoying after awhile also.

Endura 4: Carried it for awhile after giving up on the paramilitary. Found that the positioning and width of the first indent in the handle was awkward in that it is clearly designed for only the index finder, but when used in that manner, there is too much of a tendency for the whole hand to slide forward toward the blade. The Endura 3 (as well as the Delica 4 and the Delica 3), in contrast, was designed so that both the index and the middle finger are positioned securely in the first indent, which minimizes forward movement.

Military: Carried it for awhile after giving up on the Endura. I LOVE this knife, but experienced a minor lock failure due to handle flex, which continues to spook me to this day.

On the positive side, I am thoroughly impressed with the Tasman Salt and the Superhawk. I never knew that hawks could be so incredibly useful and versatile.

At first I was very disappointed in the SS Dragonfly. I blame myself because I did not research the actual size of it. Over time something clicked and I've really started to like it. I think it's because I took it for what it was, a tool. Before I treated it like pocket jewelery and was afraid to use it because of how much I liked the look of it and did not want to ruin the finish with a few scratches.

After I started carrying it and actually using it I really started to like it and enjoy the scratches it has incurred from it's use as my EDC. Now I feel naked without it. I may upgrade to a bigger EDC in the future but I will not downgrade my opinion of it when I do so. It is a great small EDC tool. If you don't have a lot of space I highly recommend it to anybody with light cutting needs.

I have not been disappointed in any of my other Spydercos. I have been very disappointed in a lot of my other non-Spyderco brands though. That is why I have stopped with them entirely and now only have Spydercos.

This is an interesting point and it might be the case. However I have two knives that I was waiting on for just as long or longer and I absolutely love those knives. I guess I'll give it a little time and if I want to get rid of it, I'm sure it wont be hard.

That is a very astute observation, yablanowitz and I agree fully with your solution. :D

And here I thought that my Adventura was perfect! :)

I haven't seen many designers for which I found every design to be a winner, but you are one of them, Alex. Please Sir...more collaborations. ;)

Back on point, I have only had one Spydie that didn't meet my expectations and that was the ZDP189 Endura. I took one look at the color and felt the handle in hand, then promptly returned it. No fault of the knife, it is just when you have EDC'd a CF Millie, the Endura was just left in the dust, IMO.

Happens to me all too often :( .

As an impulsive/obsessive buyer (and from what I can tell, I may not be alone here :D ), the release dates for alot of :spyder: 's feels like forever. You see prototype pics way in advance and get excited. But once it is out, the excitement has faded. Happened with the lum, phoenix, native4, g10 delica, rookie, urban...none of which I have purchased...hope this does not happen with the leafstorm, the rocklobster, or the new manix...though my wallet is thankful.

CF Native 4

I do like the looks of FFG blade shape/profile very much. BUT the Spyderhole is positioned into the handle which impairs the use of the Spyderhole, the jimping on the thumb ramp is missing, and the clip should be a low riding wire clip.

I compare the CF Native 4 with the CF Caly 3 and easily prefer the Caly 3.
