H1 Spyderhawk -- Let's Commit!
I was really hoping Sal would entertain with the idea of producing the H1 spyderhawk after the original.JD Spydo wrote:Sal has already chimed in on this thread. He seemed sort of favorable to the idea of an H-1 Spyderhawk but wanted to make the blade with less curve from what I remember.
Trust me I do believe we got their attention :)
If the blade is changed,it's technically not a spyderhawk,it would pretty much be a new model.
I don't speak for everyone here, but the reason I like the spyderhawk is due to it's blade shape & size.I'm sure a few forum members will agree with me on this.
No modifications needed
Hey Spyker I'm with you 1000%. My wish is for an H-1 Spyderhawk just exactly like the first one except for the blade steel and the color of the handle. I did say earlier that I wouldn't mind the newer Endura Handle but the more I think about it I would much rather have the original Spyderhawk in H-1 blade steel and to be available in SE & PE and have be available in Black or Yellow FRN handles.spyker wrote:I was really hoping Sal would entertain with the idea of producing the H1 spyderhawk after the original.

But if Spyderco themselves want to make changes then I guess you got to take the best you can get. Personally I think the Spyderhawk would be a great seller this second go around.

I really think you're right, JD. If we ask for some complicated, new (large) hawkbill, we likely won't get it.JD Spydo wrote:My wish is for an H-1 Spyderhawk just exactly like the first one except for the blade steel and the color of the handle.
However, I would like a cherry-on-top in the form of a 13mm Spyderhole and Pacific-style jimping. This ''cherry,'' however, is totally, completely, and in all other ways, optional. :) A bare-bones H-1 Spyderhawk would just be supremely great--''cherry'' or not!
God Bless Texas!

Jimping
I agree with keeping everything the same as well. However, jimping would be a definite improvement, and would probably increase sales as most people in my experience prefer jimping. But I would still buy one, jimping or not :D

I lent out my Spyderhawk to a friend who's crewing on a boat headed through the Bermuda Triangle, of all places. In case he drops it in the drink I'd love the chance to buy a new one.
I'd like to see a reissue of this knife in H1, with the addition of metal liners (and as long as they're making new molds, bidirectional grip texture). I want to see allen screws instead of rivets holding the knife together, and I appreciate the idea of the additional stiffness liners would provide.
It'd be nice if Spyderco could maintain something near the original curvature of the blade - the tip looks fragile, but I wouldn't be interested in an H1 Superhawk.
I don't care what grip shape they use - square tail like the current Salt models or rounded like the Endura. In fact, if Spyderco just throws an H1 hawk blade into a current Endura grip, that'd be aces.
Of course, like others have said: I'll probably buy whatever Spyderco reissued. It'd be great to have a Spyderhawk that doesn't need the rust scrubbed off of it!

welcome to the forum... it's great to see yet ANOTHER hawkbill fan coming out of the woodwork... :Dharpwn wrote:I lent out my Spyderhawk to a friend who's crewing on a boat headed through the Bermuda Triangle, of all places. In case he drops it in the drink I'd love the chance to buy a new one.

I agree with the above.
Keep it simple, linerless, pinned, like the rest of the Salt Series,
Also, Jimping is a must.

I'm just sitting here bored at my computer as usual on my day off from class/work and was wondering about names for this new model. I thought it was time I shared my name that I came up with and that name is Arctic Salt. What do you guys think. Someone else on this thread came up with Bearing Salt, not sure who it was but that name is cool too. Also, keeping with the theme of keeping things simple (hopefully everyone remembers my idea of the KISS method) it could just be named Spyderhawk Salt. So my final question is what does everyone think of Arctic Salt?
A legendary knife... a huge, curving talon... how about the Thunderbird Salt... :DtasmanH1salt wrote:I'm just sitting here bored at my computer as usual on my day off from class/work and was wondering about names for this new model. And so the great battle of the H1 Spyderhawk began :Dclovisc wrote:A legendary knife... a huge, curving talon... how about the Thunderbird Salt... :D

I kinda like Artic Salt but as my sig line says I really like Bering Salt.
It would be nice to hear from Sal or one of the gang about any progress being made on the Spyderhawk.
Also I know this should probably be in another thread but are we going to hear when any of the new designs are going to be available?

Nope, hence this thread going on and on and on. :DtasmanH1salt wrote:Spyker does have a good point to see if Spyderco is even going ahead with this. I know Sal likes the idea and says it can be possible, but has anyone heard if this is going to happen for sure?
I do too. I think Bering Salt would help with the effort to sell it as a commercial fisherman's knife--specifically, as a means to free ones self (or a fellow fisherman) from being tangled in the line, then going down with a 1,000 lb. crab pot.DMgangl wrote:I kinda like Artic Salt but as my sig line says I really like Bering Salt.

Thunderbird Salt >> Nice name

I like Thunderbird Salt  I think that name is truly in line for an H-1 Hawkbill.
This idea of an H-1 Spyderhawk aka Thunderbird Salt is very timely. With the SUPERHAWK gaining steam you just have to have an H-1 counterpart to that great model. On top of that the TASMAN needs a big brother
