I know there is a lot of praise around here for the Caly 3. And now it's my turn!
When I decided to change my EDC from a stainless steel handle Delica I have had for about 10 years, I wanted to take a good look at the Caly 3.
And I liked what I saw!
Compared to my old SS Delica, the Caly 3 felt noticably lighter in weight. But it didn't give up anything in terms of a solid feel -- which was what I liked best about the Delica. The Caly 3 felt every bit as solid, and the G10 scales felt solid and well-made, (much more solid than FRN), but offer much more grip than the steel scales of the Delica.
The lockup of the Caly 3 blade is like a bank vault -- solid, positive and with no play whatsoever. But the action of the Caly seems buttery smooth compared with the Delica's action.
I also like the black handle and the bronzed wire clip, which is MUCH more discreet than a chunk of stainless steel poking out of my pocket.
Best of all, the blade ergonomics fit me perfectly. I have a Native III and have always thought its best feature was the choil at the base of the blade. The Caly 3 not only has a choil in this position, but also one at the top of the blade for even greater control and safety.
It's not often that a product lives up to the hype -- not to mention to my expectations. This is my sixth Spyderco knife, and far and away my favorite!
Jumped in to the Caly 3 Pool -- And the water is fine!

I can certainly understand why someone would appreciate a nice hunk of something sticking out of their pocket for ease of deployment purposes (thinking of the Chinook or the Para or the Tenacious...) but for the the situation and places I find myself in most often I really really appreciate the low profile of the Caly. It's much easier to mistake as a nice pen in the pocket. I love the shape of the portion that does protrude from the pocket, the style of the clip and the color of the clip. It looks like it might be a little weak (compared to a big slab of steel) but I've absolutely never had a problem with it. I wish the wire clip were an option on every :spyder: .
The Caly is the only :spyder: I own at this point but I make a point to buy for friends or convert them whenever the chance arises so I can play with them
In fact, I'm giving a Kopa and a Tenacious as gifts for the holidays this year.
Something tells me I'll be buying one of each for myself (love the Kopa in Giraffe Bone).
Aside from the Native, the Delica, and the Caly - what are your other 3 Spydercos?
Welcome to the C3 club - enjoy your new purchase!

My Spidies
I have the following :spyder: :
Caly3 SE
Delica SS SE
Native III FRN PE
Cricket FRN SE
Assist I FRN
Delica PE, very old, with plastic clip molded into the handle
The more I think about it, the more I value the fact that the Caly3 just "disappears" against dark clothing. I work in an Emergency Room, and would prefer not to advertise I'm carrying a knife. The last thing I want is a combative patient to make a grab for it. I usually wear black scrubs, and the dark handle and bronzed wire clip are almost invisible when clipped into my front pocket.

bonvivantmike,
Welcome to the Forum and congrats on Caly3.
I EDC it for more than two years, I bought more than thirty Spydies since then, but none of them kicked Caly3 out of my pocket. This knife is near perfection for EDC. Enjoy it.

Hi Bonvivantmike,
Great choice ! The Caly 3 is indeed one of Spyderco's greatest triumphs IMHO. I have a crapload of Spydies and it is easily one of the best slicers in my arsenal :D In fact I used it only a few days ago when wrapping Christmas presents for my family. My wife and I had a competition to see who could wrap the fastest (and still look decent :p ). I beat her hands down when it came to cutting up wrapping paper, the Caly 3 was so fast and it cut the paper like it was butter ! .... the carpet underneath didn't complain too much

I also recently acquired a Caly III. And I also like many of the things others have mentioned about it.
The low-ride wire clip is awesome in my book. Very simple, functional and descreet.... all I ask for in a clip.
I picked up the Carbon Fiber ZDP version and I am loving this knife more and more the more I handle it.
It is the definition of refinement and simple elegance.
