Steel Handles...How are they constructed?

#1

Post by jmfwsu »

Hi,

How are the steel handles constructed and held together, especially the Police?

Are they as strong as the G10 and screw construction? Do they develop bladeplay easier?

Thanks,
Jason

I can answer part of your question.

The handles are pinned together, though you have to look closely to see the pivot. it blends in well with the rest of the handle.

I've not had any problems with steel knives (Endura, Native II, Stretch) developing blade play any more readily then FRN or G-10 handled ones.

I believe the pins are installed before the handles are finished, so the end of the pins are finished in exactly the same manner as the handles. If you could find a pic of an aluminum police, that'd give you a great idea of what your SS police would look like if it had completely visible pins.

The only thing I've ever noticed on SS handles is that they might develop a little bit of side to side play, but I don't think it's any different than a pinned FRN model. If they were to offer the SS handles with pivot screws, that'd be very nice.
