Navigator PE, was there a non-slotted Almite?

#1

Post by Keith »

I've got one of the IS CX02 solid handled Almite Navigators in the serrated SpyderEdge from SFO. Was there a PE version? If so, anybody know what the Product ID is, and maybe where I could find one? (Besides the obvious, Bladeforums & eBay. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> )

Besides a solid handled Almite Navigator, I'd love to see a version with the dual steel liners like my Mouse has. Also, a CF version from <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> would be on my wish list. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

It was an experimental.

I'm not even sure if they made it in plain edge, but that's simply because I just don't know.

<a href="http://www.spyderco.com/online_product_ ... 8C87">Here is the serrated one you are talking about</a>

Your best bet would be to go with a Pegasus, which is based on the Navigator, but has stainless steel handles. You can get a Pegasus at <a href="http://www.1sks.com/store/spyderco-fold ... 3">1sks</a>

Hope I helped you <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

KK, thanx for your reply!

Sorry I wasn't clear, I've already got several of the smaller <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>'s, to include a Pegasus (& Mouse), but the Navigator is my preference.

So, I'm not looking for recommendations for alternatives to a Navigator, I'm hoping that a solid handled Almite Navigator in PE was made (as I said, I've got the SE). My current EDC is a slotted Almite Navigator in PE.

And, if a solid handled Almite Navigator in PE was made, I was hoping to find out the Product ID & see if I could track one down for purchase ... <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

If a solid almite Navigator were made it would probably be CX02P (or something of the sorts) , but since CX02 is the standard code for the serrated version I doubt there is a plain edge version, but I could be wrong.

I will do some searching and see if I can find anything <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I'm pretty sure the solid handled ones were only available in serrated.

Other Options:

<b>The D'Holder Toad </b> -small knife- 4" OAL - almite coating - plain and serrated(serrated version is discontinued I think)

<b>The Cricket </b> -small knife- 5 something OAL - reverse S blade-plain or serrated- FRN

<b>CoPilot </b> -discontinued plain or serrated, can still be found www.eknifeworks.com has the plain edge version for 29.99 (good deal, go get it <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>) Stainless steel handle

<b>G-10 Navigator </b> - plain and serrated available, on this site in the discontinued section, 2nd page, G-10 Handle

<b>Dragonfly </b> - plain edge or serrated, FRN or stainless steel

<b>Salsa </b> -plain,50/50, or serrated edge options (I think) aluminum or titanium handles, nested compression lock on aluminum version, integral compression lock on titanium version, aluminum version is available in green, blue, or brown/tan

<b>Meerkat </b> dunno about edge types, plain edge is a definite option, a reverse S blade variation is coming out if not already out, has the cool Phantom Lock

Hope that helps <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

KK, thanx again for your efforts. Gosh, KK, I'm sorry I'm not clearer, tho, that I'm not looking for any recommendations for alternatives to my EDC Navigator. <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I'm completely happy with the Navigator. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I'm just looking for another Navigator, a solid handled Almite Navigator in PE.

Anybody else know for sure if a solid handled Almite Navigator in PE was made or not?

(KK, I have purchased all of those <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>'s, with the exception of the Toad, which I just don't care for, personally. I have found the Navigator is my preference, almost as if Sal designed it for me! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> )

I have one, so they were made for sure. I'll try to root thru my empty boxes (don't you all have those in your garage?) If I find the box, I'll get the model#.

Keith,

They were made in plain and serrated blades. That knife style was also made in G-10, and stainless handles, and the slotted almite handles. I believe the solid almite coated handles were aN Ironstone promotion when they came out. My boxes read CX02P and CX02S Almite. Hope this helps. Picture attached.

Thanx for the info, and for the picture, Rod! Didn't realize there had been a stainless handled Navigator, that's interesting news. I really do like my SS Pegasus, it's just that the Navigator fits me better (thanx, Sal!). Hmmm, out of the Navigator production runs, it looks like I'm missing:

*solid handled Almite Navigator
- CX02P (PE)

*SS Navigator
- xxxx (PE)
- xxxx (SE)

So, that'll give me three <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> knives to look for. I prefer PE in a knife this size, but if a SE shows up I'll see about acquiring it, too. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Can someone update me with the Product ID's for the stainless handled Navigators?

I guess it's too much to hope that lokelani has some in an old Ironstone box? <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Keith,

Sorry I misled you. The stainless steel model is the Pegasus and you are right, they do have a slightly different handle. I have them next to each other in my collection because they are so similar and appeared about the same time. Looks like all you are missing is the solid Almite Navigator.

I just found a 1997 Ironstone catalong that shows this knife as an Ironstone exclusive #cx02 Almite available as plain or serrated.

Neat stuff in this old catalog. Has a nice pic of the Flat Iron Folder. Wish that I would have bought one of those back then.....
