Ed used a piece of Devin Thomas stainless damascus steel in a raindrop pattern. I first fell in love with that pattern when I saw it in a picture of the very first gold coin Sebenza. I wanted a damascus blade for a D4 and one that I could use. That's when Ed suggested we use the stainless damascus and that's how we arrived at the pattern.

The blade is full flat ground and Ed added a hint of recurve in the edge. The hole is surrounded by the full stock of the blade and the grind goes under the hole towards the handle to agive the edge a bit more length. One thing that isn't visible in these photos is that the blade has been almost mirror polished.

Ed added a bit of filework. It helps to keep my index-finger on the spine for those finer cuts. Note the wavy lines in the bladestock, that is just too cool!

It is a fine user and the edge holding seems -so far- to be similar to VG-10. Then again, I'm not a steel junkie so YMMV. It came very sharp from the box. My inexperience with recurves became apparent when I nicked myself trying to shave a hair from my forearm.
Ed thank you sooo much, for making this blade for me. It's in the top three favorite knives in my collection! Number one is the SFSW Kiwi that my wife got me as an engagement gift, so you're in good company.
