New knife idea... the Goldfish!

#1

Post by LeeCQC »

I posted this on Bladeforums, and some of the ideas got me really thinking that this would be a good design. So, here's the thoughts...

A small knife, about Dragonfly sized. Orange FRN scales, and a hawkbill blade made from H1 (think about a mini tasman salt). I call it, the Spyderco Goldfish! Think about it... low-profile, bomb-proof (H1 and FRN), affordable, people-friendly, handy as a pocket on a shirt... I'd buy one for every member of my family.

On a side note, it could be offered in PE and Spyderedge... both would be good. What do you guys think? :D :spyder:

I'm in!

Heck, even if it were wharnie so that it fit in the handle a bit better, I'd still be in!

Serrations and a Ti clip, I'm all over that. I even like the name.

UrbanFISH?

Sounds to me like the Urban platform could easily fit this request.

Sal has already mentioned that an FRN Urban is a possibility. Just make a hawkbill blade in H1.

Of course it would be lockless...

Whether based on the Urban platform or the new dragonfly, I'd like a small H1 blade, hawkbill or wharncliffe.

Well, that's what I was thinking. There is no Spyderco that fills this niche, i.e. a small H1 blade. I think it would be a pretty good seller. :spyder:

I like the idea of using the Urban size and shape, but the knife needs to lock. To me: H1 means use in salt water which means cutting rope, nets, and fish which can snag the blade and potentially cause it to close.

Edit: I made some rough sketches. I didn't check to see if the blade fits within the handle, I just played around with various shapes. I didn't even want to try to draw serrations :o

Yup, I would buy one. I posted this in the last mini-hawkie thread too, but I have found that a small hawkbill (i.e. Subclaw) is a supremely useful knife for everyday chores such as opening packages, mail, cutting any sort of string, rope, plastic banding, popping those little plastic tags off of toys, clothes, etc, etc, etc. As much as I love my Crickets, I find the true hawkbill shape more useful for these little everyday chores. Not so sure about H1 though - I think I would prefer VG-10 for this little blade, especially if it will be offered in PE.

I'm really liking the sketches too. Nice job. :D
