portable diamond sharpener for serrated

#1

Post by luigisdad »

Hi:
What do you think of this?

http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/prod ... s_id/47739

It's a DMT FSKF DIAFOLD SERRATED SHARPENER. I was thinking that this would come in handy when I buy my Spyderedge zdp-189 or S90v knife. I just bought a plain edge Military S90V so I can get by with a little diamond stone.

Has anybody tried this?

Thanks

Isn't the Diafold 4x1? Can you sharpen serrated edges with something flat like that?

I think you have the wrong item. This is a fold out diamond cylindrical shaped sharpener, not a 4x1. It is not a flat stone.

I have a couple of blue (coarse) sharpeners like that. They work reasonably well for freehand sharpening on serrated edges. The Byrd Duckfoot works much better for me, though.
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

I've done a few serrated kitchen knives (not Spydercos) with a DMT like that and it's worked nicely. Those steels are nowhere near as hard as ZDP or S90V so I can't speak to it's effectiveness on them, but for touch-up work my guess is that it will work fine.
