Does it matter what kind of texture the leather is? Such as, if you had a really smooth piece of leather from a belt as opposed to a more suede-like material that was slightly rougher. Would the smoother leather give you better results?
Also, I have some red jewelers rouge I was going to use but I heard someone online say the green rouge was the only kind that would work on steel. I wanted to get a second opinion to make sure this wasn't BS.
