shabaria
I've got one, but it sits in my safe. Carrying even a pocket knife here in Oz is somewhat problematic, you can imagine if they caught you with one such as the Shabaria. The looks itself would either beguile you or offend you. IMHO the Shabaria is a very sexy knife. As Peter on the forums here has said before it is like a sexy lady in a black dress :D :p
Curiously it feels very comfortabl in the hand. Not very secure in the grip, but snug nonetheless when holding it. If gripped tight it seems to twis a fair bit. Not good if you are going to use it hard at all.
I really wouldn't recommend carrying the Shabaria for the mere fact that if you do get stopped the Shabaria will scare even the most knowledgeable of knife folk. If you use it for the purpose that it was designed for ...then, well.... it's not good news. IIRC the Shabaria is an ethnic knife from th Middle East designed to pierce and separate armour links ??? I coul be wrong but I thought that's what I heard it was for.... similar to a Khyber Knife.
It is very sexy though and very worthy in any Spydie fan's collection.

Would you have any issues importing this into the UK ?

shabaria
fantasic picture, the slim waist does look both hot and problematic (just like the fairer sex)don't envisage any probs getting it in to the uk,just the cost is a bit frightening.plus the knife i found has some wear apparently.when closed does it sit in the hand comfortably? :spyder: also is it a golden manufactured blade?
Mor epics incoming. Tis a very sexy knife. If you want to spend USD$200 on a knife you are going to use I would ask you to re-consider getting this one. I think I know where you are getting it from, and don't want to take your business away from them (they are great and I am expeting a couple of things in the mail from them ATM). But if you wan a user then a more general utilitarian blade can be had for 1/4 of the price and it will be NIB.
It is quite comfortable in hand when closed and open. Slim compared to most Spydies...very slim.... too slim ???
IIRC the blade is VG10 and thus is from Seki, Japan.

There is a CE version which I would like to get to add to my PE collection. In CE this blade would look almost as evil as the SE Civilian :p maybe more so.
The knife was in production from 1999-2002. I'd say discontinuation was due to its funky shape and thus makin it a non-viable proposition for Spyderco. Wouldn't it be cool to bring this back to life for a sprint :p

It's made in Seki/Japan (VG-10 blades). Mine is a safe queen. Why? Because Spyderco produces better knives for EDC - IMHO and last but not least ...

Similarly so Peter :D
PE is my preference. I MIGHT have a SE/ CE Shabaria on its way via my PP account (LOL :p ).
However, back on topic. I would seriously sleep over the decision to buy the Shabaria as an EDC. IMHO many more better choices. As a collector knife...yes get it for sure if you can afford it.

I really wish they would bring back this blade on a different handle. I love the shape.

everytime I hear the word shabaria I want to punch a baby, kidding, but I do think its the most god awful looking knife Spyderco ever produced. Doesnt look like a practical user so IMO it doesnt serve much purpose. I know my NIB's do not serve much purpose either but if they were called to duty they would get the job done.
Dan, Peter,
You guys killing me with your pictures. I love these curves.
I also want this knife for ages, but still cannot bring myself to spend $200++++ on this. :o :o :o

I love the Shab. it has lines that should not exist in a folder. It may be more eye apeal then actual workhorse, but if you want something to drag through the mud buy a chinook. This knife is better suited for a suit..
I have a small collection.. At least in my mind its small. All respect to Sal and this great company! Collector Club Member #120
