Bolster’s Thousandth: Write Limerick, Win Spyderco Hat!

#1

Post by Bolster »

My humble appreciation to the forum, for tolerating a thousand of my questions, remarks, and opinions with sage advice and good cheer. It is a testament to the tolerance of Spyderco and this forum that I have been allowed to opine without banishment for either my stupid questions or snide remarks.

By way of thanks, I would like to send one lucky forumite a fabulous new Spyderco-branded cap, black with white letters and a red Spyder, one size fits all. On the backside of the cap is another red Spyder surrounded by white tat-looking thorns. But to get the cap, you must write a cracking good limerick. Here are the rules:

Rule 1) The limerick must be Spyderco-themed and compatible with the “shiny footprints” rules that apply to all forum postings. Please keep it above the waist at all times, but submit as many limericks as you wish.

Rule 2) The rhyme needs to be in classical limerick form, which has five lines and a rhyme scheme of AABBA. There are three metrical feet in the ‘A’ lines and two metrical feet in the ‘B’ lines. As self-proclaimed Poet Laureate of Spyderco, I submit this example:
A cutlery business in Golden
Makes sharp things, both fixed blade and foldin’.
Sal was heard to remark:
“They’re designed in the dark!
And with holes in the blades, have we sold ‘em.”
Esteemed forumites Snubnose and Deacon have kindly agreed to help judge submissions. They will forward their top picks to me, and I will choose one from their submissions. I’ll then announce the winner here, and PM the winner to obtain an address to which I may ship the fabulous cap prize. All complaints regarding the unfairness of this awards procedure, please address them by mail to my pet Dachshund, who will treat them with all due consideration. The contest will remain open until posts taper off. Let the rhymes begin!

Thanks for the contest, Bolstermanic! But I can't imagine a better limerick than your sample. :o

I'm not good at writing Limericks so I will just wish good luck to whomever participates.

Have fun folks. Congratulations Bolstermanic on 1000 posts. It's nice to have you around for as long as we have.

A tank of a knife is the Manix.
Of big leaf-shaped blades, I'm a fanix.
What Eric bestowed
Is sadly disco'd
So I'm in a state of near panix.

Very cool idea. Been a while since I had to write one of these, 10th grade I think. :)

Anywho...

I hear that you’re looking to get a good knife,
But can’t spend too much for fear of the wife.
You need a rock solid tool,
And it better be cool.
Aye, Spyderco’s the one with value for life.

I’m new to Spyderco knife stuff,
but I’m just not able to get enough…
Of the shiny, serrated blades,
and the handles in so many shades.
There are so many from which to choose,
no matter what I pick, how can I lose?
If I just wait long enough, till I see the next one
*that’s* the one I’ll want…. oh, great…..I’ll never be done.

O.K. here goes..

I have this great little knife in my pocket
It may look strange, but don't knock it
At the spyderedge you may hee and haw
But it cuts like a high octane chain saw!
Spyderco's talk it and walk it!

Great job on the 1000,posts I don't even have 10!

Congrats on the 1K Bolster! If I come up with a limerick I'll post it.

BTW, as much as I hate to say it guys, by my count, some of the poems here aren't limericks, and so won't qualify.

Congrats on the 1K Bolster!

Bit of a disconnect between the 4th and 5th lines, but hopefully the reader can still make the link.

They're the bane of our funds and our wives*,
Built to cut, and to maybe save lives,
In your pocket they'll ride,
But you'll see them outside,
For All of God's Critters have Knives!

Apologies to Starling and all the other ladies on the forum, but spouses or partners didn't quite fit. :o

More to come if/as I think of them.
