CLB/Boker HYPER Review

#1

Post by vampyrewolf »

Ok, I've had em long enough to actually use em... time for a review.

Specs from Chad's page:
* Overall Length (inches): 6.5"
* Blade Length (inches): 2 3/4"
* Blade Material: 440C Steel
* Handle Material: G10
* Carry System: Clip

I've had this little guy in my back pocket since it came... probably use it a dozen times a day. Other than my vest catching the clip, it doesn't move.

Clip: 10/10
tip up/down, low carry clip. It holds tight, and doesn't catch on much (other than my vest). Same finish as the handle looks great.

Handle/Grip: 9/10
Jimping on the back of the handle isn't my favorite thing. Yes, it gives grip but it also creates a hotspot. Other than that ergo gripe, it's great. Nice and secure, all but disappears in a 3 finger grip, index over the blade.

Lock: 10/10
Hits just past the 1/3rd mark, rock solid. Perfect balance on the detent strength. Lock is smooth enough to not blister your thumb playing with it (trust me on that :p ).

Blade/Edge: 9.5/10
Enough length to do 99% of daily jobs, only short coming was with food prep. Had a job on my hands after cutting carrots, ended up with an orange patch on the blade due to the finish. Took a couple minutes with a cloth to get rid of. Doesn't take a lot of use to know where the tip is, as thats where most of the use at work is, cutting copper tape. Still has a shaving sharp edge, but I haven't cut abrasive material with it yet (have a single cardboard box here, and can't dispose of my server boxes for a few weeks yet).

Overall: 38.5/40 (96.25%)
Great little knife for a backup/NKP knife. The small size and secure grip make it ideal when you want to work close to your other fingers or quickly. Given that my only gripe is the jimping creating a hotspot, I'd gladly buy a few of these for both gifts and work knives. This model is a great addition to anyone's LBK rotation.

Why do people worry more if you argue with your voices than if you just talk with them? What about if you lose those arguements?
Slowly going crazy at work... they found a way to make the voices work too.

Awesome review!

I got a hyper on the way...

Daywalker was nice enough to hook me up after my lava had a freak accident.

And I just ordered a replacement lava for the one I had broke.

I have'nt seen one of his knives that wasn't great yet.

I wouldn't be suprised if I end up with one of every different color and style of the subcoms.

I think the lava was the only review I've given so far that actually got over 100% :p Gotta love those ergos and left handed carry.

I've been carrying my subcom daily since I got it... left/rear pocket with a house key clipped to it. I had 3 CLBs on me for a week straight (had to carry my endura to give my 6" between left/right front carry)

I'd be careful about saying you'll end up with one of every version of the subcom... go look at potterma's work before you talk too loudly :) Could end up with a couple dozen of em.

Thanks for that!

That make does some nice customizing!

I wonder if he sells any of it or if it's all for fun.

Wow that's nice.

How are they pricewise?

Well I just got my hyper and it looks awesome...

In my opinion it's better looking than most high end tactical knives.

Cant wait to use it.
