How would you design your "Ultimate Delica"?
How would you design your "Ultimate Delica"?
I wish there was a way we could design our own Delicas (and Enduras), I love all the variations of the D4, but wish I could mash them all together into one knife.....
Here's how I would design my "Ultimate Delica"
Flat-Ground ZDP-189 blade
Full SpyderEdge
Emerson Wave opener
Delica 3 style "Splinter-Picker" tip
D4 steel liners and screw construction, steel backspacer and spring support
Back Lock
G-10 scales (Orange)
Available ScaleKit with different colored scales (Foliage Green, British Racing Green, Blue-gray, Blue, Orange, Pink, Yellow, Black, etc....)
The U-D would be designed so the scales would be held on by a seperate set of screws, allowing the user to change scales whenever they wanted, the inner steel liner and backspacer would be the actual knife itself, in theory, you could remove the scales completely and the knife would still work

Spyderco Japan Titanium backlock, flat ground ZDP or RC 64-65 M2 blade. If it was the dream endura I'd go for S90V or cruware/vascowear, or SRS15, or ZDP flat ground. Any of the above would do. Joe

im just curious what the delica5 would be like, i cant see them out doing themselves after the delica4, you could get into other types of handles which has already been done.
i think i would go for a CF handle with all titanium inner parts and liners except the blade of course making that vg10 and maybe having the spyderco logo actually cut out to see through the blade, hopefully making it super light and super strong as well

Aha ! But you see the Delica 5 is already outRIOT wrote:im just curious what the delica5 would be like,......

In response to the thread though, I would add:
1) H1 blade steel as I feel this would make the D4 even more versatile.
2) Forefinger choil to allow for extra grip and choking up on the blade for the finer work especially when you have splinter picker point :D
3) Steel backspacer for extra bit of bling (or weight)
4) Low riding wireclip - because they are great
And with respect to the current D4 lineup, I actually love them a lot :) This bread and butter model is going from strength to strength and not much more can be done with it to garner an even stronger following.
Cheers

delica 3 blade on an endura 3 handle - screw pivot - barrel clip but with one of the humps that the first model had up towards the blade - some sort of checkering from the end of the lock bar to the blade well - denim blue clip - and a stainless filler to take up the extra room in the blade well - ooh and maybe a swedge!

I think my Delicas would get a lot more use if they were flat grind. To me, that would make them brilliant. If the steel was CPMS30V, that would be cool too.
Oh yeah, in Orange would be nice

:spyder: :spyder:  :spyder: :spyder:Oh **** ya bro  I would be happy with the way things are, if they had cpm-s30v blades  But, I would love to see blue, or orange g-10 handles, a Ti', or ball bearing lock; And a wire clip would be just simpley AWESOME......Even if the 4-way option had to go  :Dtelemeister wrote:I think my Delicas would get a lot more use if they were flat grind. With a choil.
Something like this here first Spyderco I did for myself, a Salt 1 in lignum vitae..only picture a Delica. If you recall, the original Delica and the Salt 1 had the same handle at one time.

My ultimate Delica would have:
FFG leaf shaped blade
Ergonomic handle with finger choil
Jimping above and below
Wire pocket clip for deep pocket carry
G-10 handle
...I think I just designed a Caly!

To me, the best features of the Delica are the 2.5mm blade thickness and the "old school" version's blade shape. :o So, with that in mind...
- "Stretch shaped" handle using steel liners from a Stretch II
- stainless front and rear bolsters, pinned
- sambar stag scales
- front lock without Boye dent
- "old school Delica" shaped 3.5" X 2.5mm Odin's Eye Damasteel blade
- full flat grind
- plain edge
- 50/50 choil
- 14mm Spyderhole
- fine jimping on ramp and choil
- no provision for clip mounting

Sounds expensive but nice I have to admit. I imagine it would cut well despite it being pretty. Perhaps some day we can talk Sal into doing a Deacon version of about 400.
They'ed sell despite what I consider a fairly high price.
Sal has admitted a fondness for good looking knives on occasion. Joe

As much as I like all the different suggestion, the main thing I like about the Delica is that it's a simple, robust and affordable Spydie. I hope there will always be a Delica that remains just that. Of course I wouldn't mind a high-line version to exist along side the regular Delica. For that, I'd suggest either:
- upgrading the current G10 D4(!
) with orange G10 and a choil and possibly a steel upgrade to S30V or ZDP189 (polished like the Stretch II).
- a Deacon-esque version, SS bolsters with a nice desert ironwood scales and a tip-down (right/left) clip option and D3 blade.

Very simple:
Just put a fully serrated VG10, DelicaI style blade on a G10 Standard handle
I'll buy at least 2 of them :p :D
