Fully agree with that.KaliGman wrote:I would prefer a much larger bladed slipjoint for heavy/thick rope if I was using a slipjoint,
Could you survive with just a UKPK?
All your knifelinks, http://www.knifelinksportal.com
Being able to survive with just a UKPK is exactly my problem.
This knife carries better than any other full size knife I know of, is absurdly comfortable while cutting, offers an excellent grip for more precise, controlled cutting, has a wonderful wire clip etc. I also does everything I need a knife to.
So I sit looking at my Lil Temp, Stretch 2, Military etc. and think about what nice knives they are, but how the only thing they do better for me than my UKPK is take up extra pocket space.
The UKPK ruined knife buying for me.

As an urban utility EDC the UKPK is everything you need to 'survive', for sure. But it wouldn't be much fun for any knifecollector to limit himself to just one knife. If I had to limit myself to one or a few knives, both due to cash needs and legal constraints; I'd try really hard to keep the UKPK, Caly III family, Calypso jr. family and the Stretch II.

Problem is, whenever another knife gets carried, the UKPK is still the one I Reach for because it just works the best. Stretch 2 is very nice though, it's growing on me, but I still feel like the UKPK is the stronger design for my needs. Love the materials of the Stretch though. Maybe I should trade it for a CF/ZDP Caly :)
I am a fan of Mr. Stamp.

Well, I know many of you know that I am quite a large fan of the UKPK. Just yesterday I spent most of my day cutting all sorts of various things. Rags, rope, tape, Paper, even stabbing th through thick bits of wood in order to break them... Yes I know the last is rather dumb, but it was more effective that a saw in this case :D None the less my UKPK handled the whole day no problem. Even the stabing, no problems what so ever. Can I survive with only a UKPK... yes... do I really like my Para... Yes. Do I wish I had had my Para with me yesterday... Yeah kinda... But I feel like I know the Limits of my UKPK alot better now.

I think the UKPK is a great knife (especially in Orange G-10 :D ) and you would be perfectly happy with it. I would be torn though if I could only choose one knife. I do love the UKPK, but the thing that would make me turn to having another knife is the lack of lock (it wouldn't be a UKPK then!). If only Spyderco would make the Caly in coloured G-10 (not Foilage Green though) - and with S30V
Top :spyder:s : Caly 3, Stretch, Millie, Manix 2, Police, Kopa, Polliwog, Meerkat, Chinook III, and SuperHawk.

I for one have been ever-so-patiently awaiting variations on the Caly III, one of Spyderco's most popular knives. The CF Caly III was nice, but I could use a few more variations.

Garageboy -- I'm leaning toward dropping the hammer on one with my economic stimulus money. I understand what you meant when you asked "could I survive" -- you didn't mean out in the woods Les Stroud style lol, but get along in NYC. I can see how it would overcome the "gravity knife" test. I think I'm going to try one -- and aim for it to be my new regular EDC. I'll let you know.

Oh God I hope not!amen74 wrote:This wasn't a question of trying to survive out in the wild like Bear Grylls? Has Bear ever used a Spyderco in one of his episodes? Maybe a UKPK?
That dude doesn't even know how to clean a fish with a knife.

Your right. I saw one episode where he snatched a fish out of the water and then proceeded to take a bite out of it immediately afterwards. That's entertainment!J Smith wrote:Oh God I hope not!
