What 2nd knife to carry

#1

Post by Andyjd »

normally have something people friendly in my front pocket, could be a spur, merkat, calyjr, lava etc etc you get the idea.

I've been thinking about carrying another folder, something bigger, i wont use the word tactical, because i'm no knife wielding expert, but i want it to be bigger than the Caly Jr.

Bigger than a Caly Jr. would be a Military or Endura. I do not have either of those but I could recommend the Paramilitary or Mini Manix, both of which I do have, and both of which are indeed bigger than a Caly Jr. Hope that helped!

Currently, the CF Stretch is my favorite "bigger" knife...

The original Stretch is nice as well. Several of the Salts are nice, and if you want to spend the money... The Super Hawk is out.

The Caly Jr is a pretty "large" knife by NKP standards. Perhaps you should be shopping for that Cricket to use around NKPs and then enjoy your Caly Jr when they aren't around.

If you're looking for a larger blade to carry along with your smaller blade, recommend you consider...

- Military: I like it, although some people may consider it too long.

- Manix: I like it, although some people may consider it too big and heavy.

- Para-Military: I'm finally including this in my ECD rotation. A fairly big blade that's not as long or as heavy as the Military and Manix, respectively, so it might be just right.

- Endura: Another big blade that might be just right and more economical.

Hope this helps.

I would suggest:
Waved Endura
Chinook I or II
Yojimbo would be a nice addition (friendly to look at, very tactical to use)
you might also want to consider the Adventura.....Doc :D

If you like stainless steel, adventura.
If you need more large blade, endura.

"El Tigre"
Folding knives can be classified in two large groups: Spydercos and the rest!

If you want EDC little bigger than Calypso Jr., I would go for Caly3 or C105 Persian. Much Bigger : R2, C-83 Persian, Volpe, Stretch, Stretch2.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

I don't know how the Tenacious stacks up against the Caly Jr (I'm guessing they're around the same size) or the P-Mil, but they'd what I'd be carrying if I could carry anything.

My favorite "big knife" carry would be a Millie. Second choices is usually either a Para or some flavor of Endura.

Have fun with your decision!

If you have big hands the Military or Para-military are some of the best EDC's you can get.
They give you more handle space in a lighter package than just about any other knife out there, not to mention the blade's angle to the handle is perfect for utility.
It makes most other knives seem like they were made for digging instead of cutting.

I would suggest the Military. Or if you can find a full size Calypso that would be nice to pair it with your Caly Jr.

My 2 cents.

ha. I was just thinking I wanted to get a SMALLER knife so I could carry my Caly3 more! I'll probably wind up with a nice Queen slippie for my watch pocket... (D2 steel in wood/bone handles and cheap... drool...)

A great combination I've been carrying is a Millie in back right pocket, and a Cricket or Dodo front right pocket. Again, a great combination!!!

My not too sage counsel would be a Military , Paramilitary , or an Endura of some flavor . The Millie is a classic , a joy to use , and cuts like a deamon , ergo it would be my #1 choice .

If you want a knife to use round NKP's , stick with a red handled Victorinox SAK - peeps the world over see them as a tool ! They are well made , and can be Uber usefull .
