How many of you study martial arts?

#1

Post by Idliver »

Along the lines of a thread started by Michael Bolton, inquiring about the professions of forum members, I'm curious if our interest in knives also extends into the fighting arts. What do you study? I'm into a little of everything but my foundation is Zujitsu, a blend of Goju Karate/Vee Arnis Jujitsu, with an emphasis on close quarters combat, defending against multiple attackers, and short distance weapons...like knives!

Love the blade.

Wow Doc,

there are some styles that you listed that I have never
even heard of before which is kind of rare for me :D

I try to study and teach equal amounts of:
MMA (combat sport of mixed martial arts)
TMA (traditional martial arts)
RSD (reality self-defense)

I have been known to study and teach a bit. My background is on my website: http://www.albokalisilat.org .

well i earned a junior yellow belt in Tae Kwon Do when i was 11 :D , wrestled for a few years in high school and then praticed with the CPD judo club for 6 months....so i'd say not really, i plan on joining when my kids get old enough and i get them into it, if they are interested that is.

i think you should add one more option in the poll, for me. ;)

One of my instructors used to say...White Belts and Masters are the most dangerous people in the world...The White Belt because he is unskilled and is willing to take risks that no one of higher ranking would ever consider...so he is limitless in the technique he might choose and the Master who is also limitless in the technique he chooses but has the skill behind him to know how to be safe while executing those techniques...Given the choice I'd rather be the Master... ;)

I went through some arts and systems, and today I train mix of things that suit me most (although I will probably join some BJJ club to get more grappling skills). WWII combatives, boxing, Taijutsu, Krav Maga, Jiu-Jitsu, TKD, Pekiti Tirsia Kali, Kali Sikaran, even some kung-fu... all were good :D .
...but no, no, you know it all, it's harmless little bunny...

I used to study Karate when I was younger, but haven't done any formal training or studying in 20 years.

I went to a class with Michael Janich last September and met Mark G. and Michael Cook and had a good time but I was way out of my league. It was amazing to see so many people that could take me out in any given second. I was impressed.

I like to throw the beat down on a heavy bag in my basement quite a bit but it's more just boxing.

I study/practice Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do. Very practical non-flashy street combat. Effective, yet simple.

I think Aikido can be a very good investment in health.
