Any truth to this: I have read that allegedly the ATR Ti was designed by Sal to be sold to Glock. The deal fell through? Any truth to this? If so I wonder why Glock backed out. Their loss in my opinion.
I once made the comparison: (Quote, Quote.. The ATR was the first Spyderco to really catch my eye. It’s a love hate relationship with most. There seems to be no middle ground. I liken the ATR to the Glock in the gun world. Needless to say I like Glock’s too.)

To the best of my knowledge, that story is true, at least to some extend. Not sure if Glock "backed out" of an agreement, or if the ATR was merely designed by Sal with the intent of offering it to them, but Glock had no prior knowledge of, or input into its design.

I'm actually quite fond of the ATR, but prefer the SS version to the Ti.... I don't know, it just seems to handle better!

So far I have found that the Titanium handled ATR is the most reasonable high quality knife out there. I have been fortunate to find them. They are growing scarcer and scarcer but are still out there. The most I have had to pay for a Ti ATR is $255.00 for a PE and I actually lucked in to a PS Ti new in the box for $100.00. That will never happen again.

Hi Clay. Yes, that was one of mine. I designed the knife with hopes of getting Glocks interest. Many of the gun companies were taking on knife designs. I'm fond of Glock so I designed the knife to be simple , stong and reliable with a "Euro flair". Acutally had a Glock in front of me for "spiritual design transference". The design took about 8 months.
As it turned out, Glock didn't want to make a knife and I didn't want to scrap the design.

Conversely, my only ATR is the Ti one but from what i've heard the fit and finish on the SS one is just a little better. After 15 maybe 20 openings mine was definitely a little smoother than straight
out of the box.
As for Glock, Spyderco aren't the only ones who submitted a design that was unused. At least one custom maker was in the running at some point too.
