Used to be, every time I'd travel to Germany, I'd pick up a Hubertus switchblade. I suppose automatics are no longer available in Germany?

What was legal to buy and own in Germany will STAY just the same. (That's the good news!)Bolstermanic wrote:Used to be, every time I'd travel to Germany, I'd pick up a Hubertus switchblade. I suppose automatics are no longer available in Germany?
The only thing that will change is that now, you need "a legal reason" ( ) to carry one-hand-folders and fixed knives with a blade longer than 12 cm in your pocket. (well, that's kind of a bad news, though in fact it doesn't really matter.)

I'll chime in on this for fellow EU dwellers to give you some perspective.
We have a fairly similar law here in Finland, except that it makes no mention of blade length or type of knife. So, basically, it's legal to buy and own any kind of knife, but it is illegal to carry any kind of knife in public. Unless you have a reason, which is generally interpreted as "you need it for your job". A knife is a tool, after all. It's also legal here to carry a knife as a part of a costume, which is why I dress as a ninja. :D
Ok, seriously, I'm sure we all hope that law doesn't pass, but even if it does, my guess is that, in practice, nothing will change. If you don't brandish your knives in public or threaten anyone, the cops won't know or care. Just keep it discreet.
