It took me a while but I finally have both of the C70Ti’s in hand. Both are new you can tell that. Neither came with the original boxes but I do have a couple of the Spyderco pouches I can place them in. I paid under $200 for each of them. The ones I found with the boxes were going for $300 – $475 range. I can live without the boxes for that amount. I now have all 6 varieties of the ATR’s. I just got in to this a year ago. The most difficult one to find was the C70BKP the black plain blade version. If I would have been in the game a few years ago I probably could have save a few bucks. The ATR was the first Spyderco to really catch my eye. It’s a love hate relationship with most. There seems to be no middle ground. I liken the ATR to the Glock in the gun world. Needles to say I like Glock’s too.
I do have a question in regard to blade play. The serrated version locks up tight side to side and front to back with absolutely no play. It’s perfect like it should be. The plain blade version locks up tight side to side but has noticeable play front to back.
Any thoughts. I assume that Spyderco can correct this problem if I return it. Had the knife been used it would be a different story but it does appear to be 100% new.

I've read such comments about the TI ATR before.... my (plain) TI ATR doesn't have a hint of play in it.
Looking at the pic, the Spyderedge version doesn't have the stop pin screw, but the plain one does.....
In a previous thread, by comparing manufacture dates, we came to the conclusion that ones *with* the stop pin screw were earlier, and non stop pin screw versions were made later.
I'm wondering if the *non* stop pin screw versions have a slight construction variation that reduces blade play? (Mine is the non stop pin screw version)
Hum.. I did not even notice the stop pin screw. The play does not seem to hurt anything but I would like it correct if possible even if I have to pay Spyderco for it.

I picked up a SS SE ATR as a user, and fell in love with the design (after they were discontinued, of course). I have since picked up three more variations, and now lack only the PE TI and PE black stainless versions. However, as you observed, they have been the most elusive.
Even though the PE ATR Ti has a higher collectability factor, I think that the serrations work best for the ATR.
I'd say Serrations to the ATR are as Plain Edge is to the LUM Chinese. If you know what I mean then you know what I mean and probably did well on standardized tests. (huh?) ((doesn't matter))
The ATR Ti SE is one smooth operator. The serrations are so subtle on the Ti version, at first I liked the SS Serrations better because they look meaner, toothier, but the Ti SE is the better slicer.

The ATR Ti should already be at Spyderco in Golden by now. They told me to send it back and they would have a look at it. I was informed that there are no more parts for the knife other than clip kits but I will see what they can do. I will keep you posted.
They tried and kept the knife for over a month but did not correct the problem. They tightened the blade so much that I can hardly even open it. I tried to loosen it but it did not help much. I would have been better off if I had of just kept it like it was. They only worsened the problem. They knew it because they called me to see if I wanted a credit for something at the Spyderco store. The most they wodul allow was $315.00 but hey charge full retail so that only amounted to about $200.00. I had them send it back. Oh well they tried.
the ATR is an awesome knife - my girlfriend bought me a TI PE for my birthday a few years back, it is one of my most treasured knives - simply because she saved for ages to buy it, and had to specially order it in, earlier this year i married her :)
