Why the Paramilitary neglect?

#1

Post by sovereign »

I mean really Spyderco, the Military gets all the luvin'! New G10 colors, Carbon Fiber, new blade steels every few months... But the Para? NOTHING! Why is that? Why don't you just go ahead and discontinue it if you have so lost favor with it? Now before you reply, Spyderco (Sal), let me tell you that I like the Military as well. I have a couple of S30V CF, a BG42 CF, a D2, and a S30V CE black G10 version as well. I also have a SE Para and a PE Para. But the Para just needs some of the attention thrown its way. Don't you think?

I always thought of the paramilitary as just another of the military's different flavors, just instead of a different material type or colour the size is adjusted.

It is due out in Foliage green D2 soon.

I believe it's going to be reworked sometime in the near future. There was a big thread where Sal was looking for input on refinement on the para.

Hi bh 49 ?

I'm a bit confused. Do you mean there will be a new improved Paramillie 2??? I thought this was a long term future one. I'm waiting for these D2 FG "s to come out. But a newer design surely has my interest.

Hi bh 49 ?

I like the para-millie's a lot. The reason i am stallin on them is i am waiting for the FG G10 one.

I'm a bit confused. Do you mean there will be a new improved Paramillie design? Is that a Para -millie 2 or 3 . I know i'm not knowledgable enough yet :o . I thought the next generation one was a long term future one. I'm waiting for these D2 FG "s to come out. But a newer design surely has my interest.

I would absolutely own a Para-Millie, if the clip were ambidextrous. I am thinking of having one modified for lefty carry, anyway. Obviously a great design.

It's best not to expect a specific date for any knife's release, especially with Spyderco. They will delay a model for an indefinite amount of time if they feel it needs improvement. As for why the Military gets so much attention, it is used as a pattern to test the popularity and viability of new materials. It is a popular knife in it's stock form, so Sal is betting that each sprint run will sell enough to cover its costs and provide valuable feedback on whatever new material they're testing.

This is my most wanted purchase this year. I've got $250 sitting inside this year's catalog in my knife chest waiting for this knife to come out. I'd pay MSRP right this minute to get it. I'd hope for a black coated P/E option but I'm guessing that won't happen. I think I'm going to go break down my Para for a cleaning all this talk about a FG / D2 version has made me antsy.

Its not easy to improve om the Paramil.... :D Id be happy with a D2/S30 steel with CF scale handles and a low rider clip-just for a change-but the current model is as close to perfection as your gonna get imo

Alright guys I am looking at getting the para millie. I really want another blade in s30v so far I only have the native. I really like the para but I dont like the fact its only tip down carry. Do you guys have any problem with this?
