Well it looks like Sunday and Tuesday have given me plenty of reasons to booze it up. But there's opera lessons and lifting weights tonight and I should be sober for those (though my poor teacher could probably use a drink or ear plugs). A Superhawk would be even better, of course.

The only one I don't butcher would draw too many cats. Seeing as how so few people like lolcats, it might be less than good. The plus side is that of the youtube versions of the aria I mangle least ("Caro Mio Ben"), only one Argentine student and one elderly countertenor (among the male singers) sing it much better than me (that Argentine guy is amazing!) - the rest, well they're good, but have a different focus. They're also quieter than me, so I think my wife would like their singing better. :o
Speaking of which, it is time to focus on hawkbills. There's the must-have Superhawk and pre-orders can be taken at http://www.spydercovt.com and http://www.newgraham.com and the affordable must-have G-10 Crossbills from Byrd. JD might pass on those as they're made in the politcally transitioning country known as China, but Byrd knives are high quality and they're hawkbills!

DEACON JUST TRADED ME A HARPY PE!!!! It's pretty much my favorite thing ever. I was really pumped that I had the same knife as Hannibal until I saw the movie again. If you watch the part right after he kills Pazzi, when he slits Tommaso's throat if you look carefully you can see that it's serrated!!! I was really depressed when I noticed it, but that just means I have to get the SE version too! :D :D :D

:spyder: Pretty sure he kills people with a PE in the books, if you're comforted by that sort of thing? :spyder:LOOKABIRD wrote:DEACON JUST TRADED ME A HARPY PE!!!! Very awesome! LOOKABIRD, I do feel your pain regarding getting that absolute right hawkbill!! You know, I thought it was just me, but I've played the Hannibal DVD in slow mo to get a good look at the good Doctor's Harpy as he's about to let loose that Pazzi character--and I swear--I can see serrations on parts of the blade as they sort of come into focus! I've got to check out the scene you mention in slo mo...I've tried doing an internet search on a prop replica for that knife, just to find out if they used the Spyderedged knife in the movie, but to no avail...couldn't find a thing!LOOKABIRD wrote:DEACON JUST TRADED ME A HARPY PE!!!! In the book, Lecter definitely is using a serrated Harpy. He is a man of consistency, after all! :D
The other wierd thing is that in the movie the G10 version is used, and if it is in fact serrated...well, to my knowledge the G10 Harpy only came in PE!
Hope that sheds some light on the Harpy thing for ya! :D

Starling,
Actually, if you look at it when he is threatening Pazzi you can see a hint of a hole in the handle like the SS version. I saw on BF that someone who worked on the movie said for a fact that it was a SE version. I'm pretty sure they just ground down the serrations
They did the same thing on the Endura in CSI New York (you can see that in the new thread in the general discussion forum). Well now I have to get the SE version! And I'm sure that I won't be disappointed :D

Au contraire...who else but Hannibal Lecter can make a serrated knife look so dang sexy!! :DBlackhair wrote:It's a Hollywood conspiracy! They don't want our favorite serrations to be displayed in a desirable manner in movies!
We have to stop them! :D

Oh, I agree with you. The conspiracy that I was talking about was the fact that in the movie, he has a PE, when everyone knows that he uses SE.Agent Starling wrote:Au contraire...who else but Hannibal Lecter can make a serrated knife look so dang sexy!! :D
