I read in another post where someone had mentioned it seemed like a "mini" Millie to them, so when I picked a Tenacious up yesterday, I thought I would scan them side by side so everyone could make their own decision about it. I purposely left them original size so you could see the detail as closely as possible.
If they don't take too long to load, try to view them full size, you might have to click on the picture a second time after you've clicked the thumbnail to do that.
I used my S30V Millie as opposed to my BG-42 so you could do a comparison with the G-10 scales as well.
Enjoy, I hope they don't take too long too load for you.

This view lets you see the difference in the size and colouring of the logo. I like the silver, and the size, even though it's a larger logo on a smaller knife, seems to fit. You can also see the difference in the way the index finger choil is chamfered differently on each knife. They are both very comfortable to use, but I think I actually prefer the way it's done on the Tenacious. You can also see the PB washer on the Tenacious. There is a definite difference in the way the holes for the screws and lanyard are finished. Even this close up the Mille's look perfect, not so close on the Tenacious, but still very good and not noticeable unless you look close and side by side.
I like the outline style lettering too.

Image

This side shows the different clips. There IS a logo on the Tenacious clip, for some reason it didn't show up when I scanned it, tried 3 times.
The G-10 is milled (proper term?) differently on the two, both are attractive. On the Tenacious mine is a shade darker than the Millie, but I would guess that could change on either knife. The largest difference to me is that the G-10 on the Millie is substantially "grippier", although the Tenacious doesn't fly out of your hand as if it's coated in Crisco, the Millie just stays in your hand better.

Image

NOTE: The rainbow discoloration is not on the knife, just my scanner.
Here you can see the difference in the thumb jimping, both work well. The Millie's blade starts out thicker and tapers to a thinner edge at the point. The metal of the Millie's clip looks thicker as well (don't know if it's the same steel or not), and the scales are thicker too.

Image

Again, the discoloration is a product of my scanner, not on the knife.
Jimping on the Millie only, no big deal. Nice lock on the Tenacious looks as sturdy as any other liner lock out there to me. The lock seems to go full width on my blade, not off center at all.
While we're on this view, I'll add that the knife opens very smoothly and locks up solidly. The knife was the usual Spyderco razor sharp when I got it, but it's much sharper after 5 minutes on the Sharpmaker, as is the norm for this steel, very easy to sharpen and seems to hold it's edge well.

Summary:

-**** of a knife for the money
-Don't care where it was made, but if it had been made in the U.S., I think it would have been a $100 knife.

Get as many as you need for the car, friends who need an introduction to good knives, or whatever else you can think of. I predict it will be Spyderco's #1 seller.

thanks for the great detailed photos Rik.....those Tenacious liners look a hair thicker than that of the Military.....IIRC Vivi mentioned that the liners look almost "polished"....I can't see burrs on them....the F&F looks excellent on the Tenacious.... I still waiting for the plainedge to be back in stock so I can score one :)

I've noticed too that even in photos sometimes the logo on the Tenacious clip shows up and sometimes it doesn't. It's very odd.

Also in the closeups there's a noticable difference in the fit in finish. The margins just aren't as tight on the Tenacious. I doubt it impacts it's functionality though.

I scanned it 3 times at different resolution levels, same result each time. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the logo on the Millie is engraved, and on the Tenacious it's embossed?

I agree, but only very close up (less than 10-12 inches). Still plenty good though, and better than many knives costing more. Hasn't impacted functionality yet.

Thanks guys, I'd been on the fence a bit about getting one of these. Looks like I gotta do it. My wallet is screaming already. But at this price it should quiet down quick enough, lol.

The G-10 is a different quality:

The tenacious uses the same style of G-10 scales (both pattern and material) as the Byrds e.g. G-10 Cara Cara.

The American made spydies (don't have a japanes made spydie to compare with) use from what I'm told, custom G-10 that's peel-plied to have a better texture.

It's probably better quality too as seen with the Millies in which the entire handle is just G-10 without the need of metal liners.

Not necessarily true as the Mini Manix (made in Colorado) is constructed in a similar fashion as the Tenacious with the G-10 and metal liners.
