Military for the Seals?

#1

Post by Razor »

I did a search on goggle for spyderco military, and it said thatr when a navy seal joins a platoon, they are given a combo edge, black blade spyderco military. Wonder if this is true?

Link?

That'd be pretty sweet.

Wonder if there's a page where it lists which military (not the knife!) groups get what knives as standard equipment.

I know that emerson was commissioned to do some knives for certain groups a little while back, and the Civilian was made for some special ops guys working domestically.

It was actually designed for LE, according to Spyderco.

I have a friend in the Navy who supplies a Seal Team and he says that they are issued a Benchmade Presido Auto CE and a Benchmade Nimravus fixed blade...

My understanding was that Seals don't really have a particular issue knife or knives and just order what is considered suitable at the time.

My understanding may be incorrect of course.

i have seen the police engraved with seal teams 1-3. as far as what they are using i have read somewhere that one of the teams were using a waved endura with a speed sheath, probably as a backup knife. I was lucky enough to be told of this endura (the only one i have ever seen) thanks to a forum member (thanks again) on here and picked it up to add to my collection.

i am sure they do, but you need to have a knife when you are not deployed and a big fixed blade on your side might bring unwanted attention ;) + after all that hard work you did to make it in an elite group you are proud to put that symbol on some of your possesions and maybe a tattoo also. :)

I remember that -at least in the past- SEALs were issued a Cold Steel Recon Tanto and a Spyderco Endura. Knives with emblems seem to me to be private purchases by the teams.

I am a lurker here. However if you look at my post count, and my join date you will notice that I have been around a while.

I usually only post questions here, but now feel that I can give an answer to a question posed. There is no Spydie that has ever been issued to ANY SEAL or team. There is actually very few knives that are issued. The first that is Issued is the Cold Steel SRK. That is given to all prospective seals at the beginning of BUDS.

Other than the Srk there really is no offical knife. Any Knife however can be given NSN number and be carried in the Px. Seals were given latitude on any edge weapon and carried a very diverse set of tools.

Other blades that were issued. LM Wave, Gerber 600, Camilus K-Bar, Camilus mk2 dive knife. and a couple others.

Had to come back and respond to this as it tweeked my melon. There is a lot of stuff the the trident was put on. we dont buy it all. In fact most of the time it is sold to any service member of any branch by companies to make more profit.

Ive said enough time to lurk again.

i am sure you guys (seals) don't buy them all but the one i have came with a letter from the orignal owner. i just looked it up, i won't post his name but the letter states at the time of the first sale (early 2000) that he was an active duty senior chief petty officer on seal team 3 in cornado and under his name it looks like UDTRA #59. i can understand how it would piss you off for companies to put the trident on to sell more of their stuff but i think spyderco does a pretty good job of only selling engraved knives with a logo to only people who belong to that group of said logo. i checked in on this because i want to get one with the chicago fire department symbol and one of the first things they want is identifcation.

p.s. thanks for serving :)

Not much to add, other than that I'm pretty sure Emerson made some "naked" CQC7's for the Marines.
