non-spyderco little-big knives

#1

Post by Spygineer »

i am obsessed with spyderco's little big knife series. i have most in my collection...spin, copilot, kiwi, mouse, toad, lava, dragonfly...with my all time favorite being the cricket.

aside from the boker subcoms, can you guys recommend some more good quality little big knives (size of a dragonfly max) from other companies. i just want to see how they compare to spydies...although i think i already know that answer to that.

thanks in advance

You didn't mention a Salsa in your collection. That is a great little big knife.

the Spyderco "S" is not for everyone, but if you're into lightweight this one must be mentioned.... the Byrd Robin FRN is a personal fave for me as well; now those Boker Subcom folders with variant blade shapes (wharcom, subclaw) are my all time favorite non- :spyder: little big knives... regardless of price....
I have a Fallkniven U2 which is a good backlock folder but the price is roughly double that of a Subcomfolder....
Al Mar Hawk / Osprey series are another consideration...
A "tiny" fixed blade that I also like is the Buck Hartsook :)
I forgot to mention the Byrd Flatbyrd, Finch and Starling are pretty sweet too, esp. the SS Finch which seems built like a tiny tank :)

If you're open to the idea of fixed blades, then I feel that it's my moral duty to recommend a Swick to you. :D

Those are great little knives if you can still find one.

The handle shape fits the hand similar to the way the Lava does. My only gripe is that the finger cutout at the very end of the knife, for the pinky, seems like it has the potential to be somewhat awkward, depending on what size your hands are (it fits my hand like a glove :) )
Back from an extended hiatus.

I've truly only found good Spyderco LBK's. Nothing from any other manufacturer comes close to being beautiful and useful the way the Spydercos are.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Though I've seen CRKT's and Al Mar's little knives, they dont quite compare to spydie's collection of LBK's. Aside from the Subcom's, I guess, I'll try to track down more spydies...thanks for the salsa and byrd model suggesitons.

I guess I'll just wait for that G10 cricket (*wishful thinking*)!

Spygineer,

check out the Ka-Bar TDI LDK...it's a tiny fixed-blade necker that can be carried other places, too.
