Sal, how about a Golden Tenacious?

Sal,

kudos to you and Eric for this outstanding design. It is quickly becoming one of my all time favorites (even with the liner lock :rolleyes :) .

I think it deserves a run in Golden, with a P'kal style ball lock.

Pretty please? :)

From my memory it seems that Sprint runs are usually done at the makers the knives were originally tooled in. A completely new run in Golden with a different lock would take years of doing.

And most of us lowly consumers don't even HAVE them yet.

Just to make things clear; I, and I believe others, would be willing to pay considerably more for a US (or Seki) made version of this great design with upgraded steel and lock.

What part of the Tenacious makes it your "all-time favorite"? Have you handled one?

I just ask because that title (for me) would be hard to give to a knife before handling it.

Yes, I've handled one.

The overall design (blade shape and size, handles) works really well for me, and looks great, IMO. The only thing I'm not crazy about (being a lefty), is the liner lock.

I love this idea. Without doubt I would buy this knife, most likely many people would.

:spyder: Why don't we give it a chance to be successful as a Chinese production knife first? The Whole point of this knife is to China's lower cost production to give Spyderco a competitive edge, right? :spyder:

How does the liner lock compare to the Captain? I've only handled the Captain at the SFO, but the liner lock was too much of a pain to make me want the knife... (It was very stiff)

exactly what I was thinking. We already have quite a few sprint runs, collaboration, and high dollar knives coming. I for one think the tenacious is a nice change for some of us poor folk. :)

If I remember correctly one of the points of having this knife made in China was that they needed a manufacturer who could handle large volume. I think Sal told us that both Golden and Seki where pretty much at capacity with current and near future models. So I do not think there is place for a Golden made Tenacious any time soon.

There are always other Golden models to spend money one though ;) .

The fact is the design is to good to be Spyderco's Cheap Wal-Mart Knife. Shoot if there was a compression lock and s30V, it would beat out the Para.

I'm not asking Sal to drop the Chinese version. I think it's going to do extremely well for :spyder: . I'm saying why not make a version for afis, as well? The design is that good.

I know it will take some time to implement, that's why I'm putting the idea out there early ;)

The Tenacious may be made in China and inexpensive, but it's not cheap or low end. It can sit alongside my Stretch 2, Caly 3, Manix or Military, and not be embarassed.

The price will appeal to Walmart customers, but the design makes it appealing to jaded afis like me.
